Metamagic: Twinned Spell BG3 Guide
Metamagic: Twinned Spell is one of seven Metamagics available to Sorcerers. Metamagics are a Sorcerer-specific feature that allows them to alter the properties of their Spells to benefit them and their allies, or to simply bolster the effects of the spell casted. In Early Access, there are 7 Metamagics that you can spend Sorcery Points on, each of which have varying Sorcery Point costs depending on how potent they are. To use Metamagics in Baldur's Gate 3, click on the Metamagic you want to use, then click on and cast the spell you want to apply the Metamagic on. Spells that are compatible with your chosen Metamagic will glow white on your Spell HUD. Only one Metamagic can be applied to a spell at a time.
Sorcery Points are a resource only available to Level 2 or higher Sorcerers. Their main purpose is to apply Metamagics onto casted spells to improve them. They can, however, also be used to create or regain Spell Slots in a pinch through the Create Spell Slot Bonus Action. Sorcery Points are replenished by having a Long Rest at Camp or by sacrificing Spell Slots through Create Sorcery Points.
Metamagic: Twinned Spell costs 1 Sorcery Point per spell level (i.e. using this Metamagic on a Level 2 Spell would cost 2 Sorcery Points and so on), and allows the spell casted to target an additional creature. This additional creature must be a different creature within the Sorcerer's range. Twinned Spell is only compatible with spells that target one creature, and is therefore not compatible with spells that can damage multiple people in one cast, such as Magic Missile, or have an area of effect (AOE), such as Fireball, even if they were to only hit one target. If a single-target spell is casted at a higher level and gains additional targets through this method (e.g. Blindness will target 1 additional creature for every spell slot level casted above Level 2), it becomes incompatible with this Metamagic. Twinned Spell is amazing when paired with single-target damage-dealing spells, basically offering a double damage buff for Sorcerers with single-target spells as their main means of offense.
Consider taking Metamagic: Twinned Spell if you have one or more of the following Spells prepared (the full release of Baldur's Gate 3 may feature more than the options given): Acid Splash, Chill Touch, Chromatic Orb, Fire Bolt, Phantasmal Force, Ray of Frost, Ray of Sickness, Witch Bolt. All Sorcerers can pick Twinned Spell from their list of Metamagic starting at Level 2. In Early Access, you only get to choose 3 Metamagics to keep, and are unable alter your choices after picking. In the full release of Baldur's Gate 3, however, you will be able to alter your list of Metamagic through respeccing.

Has a bizarre interaction where it works with Ice Knife. This has an AOE so if targets are close by it's actually far better than burning hands or thunder wave as it creates an ice surface and can interact with the vulnerabilities created by wet. Makes no sense but I'm glad it exists

I know twinned haste is a meme but it feels kind of unfun to me how good it is. Given that you don't have to worry about saves, and how much of caster balance is tied up in the concentration resource. I have a sorc in my party and their role in BBEG fights is literally "cast twinned haste and then hide as far away from combat as possible to avoid breaking concentration" even though they have 5th level spells

This is a garbage choice in the game. I regret picking it. Can't use it on hardly anything good. (Haste, ok I do not want twin haste... I want to shoot 2 fire balls and other stuff., )
This choice is WEAK, LAME AND BORING. (mainly because it does not work on any good spells).

Twin Spell with Witch Bolt will break concentration immediately after casting. So, it's only useful if you intend to use it for a single turn.

Spells that have concentration can't be twinned as you lose concentration immediately. I hoped they would fix this on release but I guess not. Not being able to twinned haste is a bummer.

twinned spell is op in 5e, but the confusion as to targets makes it also one of the hardest to use. Twinning Buff spells or firebolts is always a good move.
