Divine Smite BG3 Guide
Divine Smite is a Paladin-specific feature that allows the Paladin to emanate divine might on their weapon as they strike, letting you deal additional radiant damage to your target. This spell can turn ordinary attacks into devastating blows, making it essential when dealing with enemies with larger Hit Points. Divine Smite is a unique spell since you can have it prepared at all times and you also have the ability to fully control it during combat. You can have it automatically trigger when you land a successful strike, have it only go off when you land a critical hit, or even have the game ask you if you want to use Divine Smite every time you land an attack.
How to Use Divine Smite in BG3
To control all of this, you need to go to your Reactions tab which can be found on your Character Sheet. Here you will find two checks that you can toggle, the first check you'll see on the left is when you want to enable or disable the spell. Once checked, Divine Smite will always activate every time you land a successful melee strike as long as you have a spell slot available.
The second check you'll see on the right where it says "Ask". This is if you don't always want to trigger Divine Smite and you don't wanna waste time going to the Reactions tab to enable and disable the spell. Once the "Ask" box is checked, a pop-up will always appear asking you if you want to use Divine Smite upon a successful melee strike.
Useful Tips for Divine Smite in BG3
Upon reaching level 5, Divine Smite will deal 3d8 radiant damage to your target on top of your weapon's damage. You will also get two more rows under the Reactions tab and this time, giving you control over up-casting Divine Smite as a level 2 spell. It is recommended that you turn everything on and have all the "Ask" boxes in each row checked, this way, it will give you full control over this spell's use. Knowing this spell deals additional radiant damage, you should also consider using this against tougher enemies, and even have it trigger when you land a critical hit. Having a critical hit with Divine Smite will deal double weapon damage and double radiant damage, all of that at the cost of only one spell slot.
Divine Smite Tips & Notes
- Killing enemies with Divine Smite will not trigger Great Weapon Master's bonus Attack.

I read "to a maximum of 5d8" so max level 4 slots, but if I multiclass 2 paladin and 10 bard/sorcerer I get level 5 and 6 slots doesn't it increase the damage to 6d8 and 7d8?
Is it worth using the other level 5 smite spells?

for gwm bonus attack workaround.
do the divine smite action instead of mainhand + reaction.
divine smite spell action will trigger gwm bonus on crit/kill.
once triggered, then use the regular mainhand + reaction for more control over spell slots.
