Extra Attack Tips & Notes

  • Notes and player tips go here
  • The Pact of the Blade DOES stack with this regular extra attack, a conditional ability that lets you attack again with your pact weapon, in fact the description doesn't say it doesn't stack with Extra attack.
  • Throwing an object can trigger Extra Attack.
  • If you attack with a Main Action Weapon Attack, and Get the Extra attack, you may use Action Surge with Main Action again and get another extra attack.
  • If your two attacks are using both action and bonus action then no AS will not restore the bonus action.
  • Extra attack triggers when you use your action to make an attack against a creature. Extra attack occurs on your main hand weapon and you can then use your bonus action to make another attack with your off-hand weapon but this attack does not trigger extra attack since it was not made with your action but rather your bonus action.
  • Each turn you will get: Action, Bonus Action,  Movement, and Reaction. Every single Turn. You can use your ACTION as a main attack, if you have this Extra Attack, you can Attack twice as a part of your ACTION every turn. (3 times with Fighter at level 11). If you have an Off-Hand weapon (Dual Wield) you can attack with your Off-Hand weapon as a BONUS ACTION. Movement is limited, there are ways to increase it, some items/spells/character traits. As for REACTION, it happens outside of your turn, for example when an enemy is next to your Paladin and is trying to run away, you can decide to Attack him as an Attack of Opportunity (automatically), this uses your REACTION up. Also remember to keep an eye out on items / spells etc you use. While in COMBAT MODE, at the bottom of the description of everything, you can see what resource you use. For example using an item / changing your weapon from inventory / casting a spell (most of the spells) uses an ACTION. Drinking a potion, some of the spells you can cast / coating your weapon with poison etc uses up your BONUS ACTION.
  • This stacks with the Wild Strike from Druid.

I learned the hard way a spell is not an action to trigger this extra attack. I was multiclassing tempest cleric (lv5) with bard (lv6) to attack twice per turn with call lighting. It doesn't work.

Does not work with dual hand crossbows, even with the crossbow expert feat (even though you should be allowed to attack 3 times, twice with main hand and once with off hand according to 5e rules).

This is just wrong, because it straight up tells you in-game that it shouldnt.

How it works currently: Activate Pact -> take a swing -> next swing -1 action cost
How its supposed to work: Activate pact -> 'Extra Attack' gets added as class feature

Works with throw, improvised weapon, charger feat, weapon specific specials that are not just copies of spells, and many more actions ( not bonus actions). Additionally, the types of attacks used to trigger extra attack can be used as the additional attack as long as you have the resources necessary to make that attack.

I have been getting a weird thing with extra attack where I will be able to do 3 attacks in one turn, without a speed potion or anything. Happens occasionally with both my Paladin MC and Lae'zel at level 6 - I do my two attacks and then extra attack somehow triggers again for a third one, leaving me confused as to what just happened. Not a matter of bonus action attacks either, this is just hitting the normal main hand attack button. Anyone know what causes this or if it's a bug?

              • The Pact of the Blade DOES stack with this regular extra attack.
IMHO it's not a bug: Deepened pact is not an "extra attack", it is a conditional ability that lets you attack again with your pact weapon, in fact the description doesn't say it doesn't stack with Extra attack.

Note that druid also gets " Wild Strike" at level 5 and an additional at level 10, which is like extra attack but only applies while wild shaped. ( Not exclusive to moon druid, either )

Very specific question here. I know that an off-hand attack using a bonus action does not trigger the extra attack, but let's say I hit with a main action weapon attack and I get the extra attack and use it and hit with it. Can I use action surge, then attack with my main action again and get another extra attack? My guess is probably not but curious if anyone can confirm this.

Many questions here but I can't seem to find a good answer anywhere.

                      1) Do extra attacks occur on any attack?

                      2) If I dual wield, will I attack twice with both weapons or just the main hand?

                      3) If I use a Monk with Wholeness of Body active, then use Bonus Actions twice to perform two attacks with Flurry of Blows, will this also trigger the Extra Attack every time?

I don't suppose this stacks? Say you multiclassed barb/5 fighter/5, you wouldn't get 2 attacks (1 from each level 5) since that would give you more attacks earlier than a pure fighter and it doesn't say the other classes get any more attacks (given BG3 level limits))
