Pact of the Tome Tips & Notes
- Notes & Tips go here
- You may cast Animate Dead, Call Lightning, and Haste once per short rest at level 5, without using a spell slot.
- You can also take an Invocation to get access to a new set of spells: Ray of Sickness, Chromatic Orb, and Silence once per long rest. That will give you at total of 6 spells per long rest, in addition to all of your short rest spells.

The cantrips are NOT once per short rest, you can cast them as much as you want just like any cantrip.
The lvl 5 spells are also once per short rest, not once per long rest.
This is a good choice because it gives more offensive spellcasting options outside our limited spell slots.
The cantrips are also very useful, Guidance works for conversation rolls, Vicious Mockery is useful for boss fights or tough singular enemies, and Thorn Whip can be used to pull enemies back into your Hunger of Hadar/Darkness/Edvard's Black Tentacles or other character's AoE spells like Sleet Storm or Glyph of Warding. Between Thorn Whip and Repelling Blast you have great tools for manipulating enemy positioning that don't cost any spell slots.

Note that the free spells do NOT get upcast to your highest spell level like other Warlock spells. No ghouls for you.

I'd so much rather it allowed me to choose my cantrips.
But besides just choosing to NOT have thorn whip I'm not sure what I'd actually take in it's place.

The spells reset position in my spell bar every time I reload a save or enter a new area.

Does this allow you cast each of these once per long rest or ust one of them oce per long rest? If it's each this pretty awesome.
"At level five you may cast Animate Dead, Call Lightning, and Haste once per long rest."

Is the second set of spells unlocked at character level 5 (like the additionals "Eldrich Blast" beams) or Warlock level 5 ?

I'm disappointed that we didn't get an actual book with the pact. It's really minor but having one would make the immersion so much entertaining imo

Please, for the love of the gods, you could just let us pick the spells and cantrips, and also inscribe rituals like in the original D&D

Thorn whip? For one, what would the problem be to allow this to work the way it's supposed to and let us CHOOSE the cantrips we get. Secondly, if you aren't going to do that, why would you pick thorn whip? What utility does it have that can't be achieved with something else?

Kinda disappointed that we didn't get an Undying Servitude Eldritch Invocation, because it makes it so that PotT is the only way to get Animate Dead and play a summoner-style build on a Warlock until you get to level 11 and can take Create Undead (or you mutliclass cleric/wizard). We also didn't get any other of the summoning style spells like Summon Aberration or Summon Shadowspawn either. Tomelocks seem to be the best Pact for mid/late game ranged Warlocks, since Familiars are known to fall off in combat viability after around 5th level. I'm sure they stay good for scouting, but an extra familiar attack doesn't help without any other stat scaling : /

NGL this seems OP compared to blade and chain which is broken rn at lvl 5

will this have the option to have names in the book to help your party members live? I loved that aspect of this pact in normal D&D and would love for it to be here as well but I don't see an option for that yet unfortunately

In addition to this Pact is there any more spell slots?
Seems like taking this will run out of slots fast.

At lvl 5 you get animate corpse, haste, and call lightning. Super helpful. Was disappointed at first with the cantrips but casting these spells once per long rest makes it worth it.
Found the contradiction with each other (LONG/SHORT rest):
"At level five you may cast Animate Dead, Call Lightning, and Haste once per LONG rest."
"You may cast Animate Dead, Call Lightning, and Haste once per SHORT rest at level 5, without using a spell slot."
