Sorcery Point BG3 Guide
Sorcery Points are a Sorcerer-specific resource that are mainly used to power another Sorcerer-specific feature called Metamagic. These Metamagics alter the properties of your Spells to benefit you and your allies, or to simply bolster the effects of the spell you cast. In Early Access, there are 7 Metamagics that you can spend Sorcery Points on, each of which have varying Sorcery Point costs depending on how potent they are.
Metamagic: Careful Spell
Allows your allies to automatically succeed Saving Throws against the spell you cast (only applicable to spells that impose Saving Throws).
Metamagic: Distant Spell
Doubles the range of any ranged spell. Spells that are 1.5m (i.e. in touch range) have their range changed to 9m instead.
Metamagic: Extended Spell
Doubles the duration of spells that persist (e.g. Conditions, Summons or Surfaces).
Metamagic: Heightened Spell
Causes enemies to have Disadvantage when rolling their first Saving Throw against the spell you cast (only applicable to spells that impose Saving Throws).
Metamagic: Quickened Spell
Allows the caster to spend a Bonus Action instead when casting a spell requiring a full Action.
Metamagic: Twinned Spell
Allows the spell casted to target an additional creature (only applicable to spells that target 1 creature).
A Sorcerer can choose 2 Metamagics from Careful Spell, Distant Spell, Extended Spell, and Twinned Spell at Level 2, and can then choose one more Metamagic from the whole list at Level 3. Choose your Metamagics carefully as once you've made your decision, the only way to change which Metamagics you have available to you is through respeccing. Metamaigcs that are definitely worth considering are Heightened Spell, Quickened Spell, and Twinned Spell.
Besides Metamagics, Sorcery Points can also be used to regain used Spell Slots through the Bonus Action Create Spell Slot. Through this action, you can spend 2 Sorcery Points to regain a Level 1 Spell Slot. In regular DnD, this cost increases the higher the Level of the spell slot regained, but by how much may be different in the full release of Baldur's Gate 3. Any extra Spell Slots created are lost after a Long Rest. Sorcerers can also choose to do the opposite, gaining one Sorcery Point by sacrificing a Level 1 Spell Slot through Create Sorcery Points. You cannot gain more Sorcery Points than your maximum through this method. Both Bonus Actions are unlocked when reaching Level 2 as a Sorcerer, no matter your Subclass.
You can replenish your Sorcery Points by having a Long Rest at Camp.
