Dhourn Dialogue Options

Dhourn is found petrified, near the selunite temple in the Underdark. Once you reach his area of influence, you will be faced by a Spectator. The monstrosity will remove the petrify spell from Dhourn and his Drow team, this will cause them to attack you. The player can either kill the Spectator first or do a small amount of damage to Dhourn, breaking the Spectator's hold on him. If the latter is done, Dhourn will fight with you against the Spectator.

He will tell you about how he and two other Drow (Xargrim and Filro the Forgotten) were looking to find the adamantine forge, but reaches the conclusion that they are either dead or couldn't find it. If the player has already fought Filro the Forgotten you have the opportunity to tell him Filro is dead, having joined a pack of Hook Horrors. Nevertheless, you will end up fighting him and any other Drow the Spectator managed to de-petrify during the fight.

If you are a female Drow, the interaction can be resolved peacefully by convincing Dhourn to give the player his Memory Shard and return home. Note that if you do this you will not receive the Icy Helve loot (can be combined with other items to make a staff). You may pickpocket him for the Icy Helve after ending the encounter peacefully, but he will disappear from this location once you reload the area and/or long rest. Unknown at this time if he can be encountered again later.

I managed to save all the Drow including Dhourn peacefully as non-Drow. Dialogue options:
      2,
      pass Arcana check,
      2,
2 (his companion Xargrim must have been killed first),
      3 successfully deceive him,
      2

But unfortunately I didn't meet him again at Grymforge (he's looking for it). So make sure you rob him before he disappears....

      Cheers Lotus Noctus

Long resting after the spectator fight but before the conversation causes all drow to disappear. We had them all unpetrified so I'm unsure if petrified drow disappear too.

Forgot to mention in the post below. You won't be able to get his Blast Pendant this way. It will not be in his inventory at the time of the theft. It will only appear if you killed Dhourn or knocked him out non-lethally.

          • Anonymous

In a conversation, you can deceive him and say that you didn’t find anything on Xargrim’s corpse. Then he will not attack you after the conversation and you will receive 240 experience. 40 experience for each of the 6 petrified drow. After this, you can steal a crystal and a fragment of the staff from him.

            • Knock out the petrified Drows with non-lethal attacks nets you 40 exp each. Quicksave, then reload and lethal attack them. You gain additional 40 exp again. You can effectively turn this 240 xp for Drow into 480 xp.

              • Anonymous

If you talk him into handing over his memory shard as a female Lolth-Sworn Drow, and then talk to him as another character, he'll forget he handed the shard over willingly, accuse you of stealing it while he was petrified, and attack.

Does anyone know if there is a reason to keep them alive? Do they show up again later? Or should I just kill them regardless for that sweet XP?

Don't waste basilisk potion on the petrified drows, or in this case, Dhourn. You can cleanse their "charm" status from the spectator so they will ally you in the fight.

                      • Anonymous

Dhourn cast darkness on my party when I got initially surprised, and I used the darkness cloud to plink at the drows who became un-petrified to un-charm them, by walking out then back into the darkness cloud to avoid the beholder. The beholder almost never wants to go into the cloud of darkness to attack, and so long as you never attack Dhourn who is busy concentrating the spell, you can usually save him for some dialogue. Well.. "save" him, as most characters and dialogue choices end in a fight, but that's just how things go sometimes.

                        • Anonymous

Using basilisk oil on him or another petrified drow makes them neutral and fight with you against the spectator, who will not try to charm already unpetrified drows.
This can be done during combat but also before, which will trigger the fight immediately (i think)

I cast Hunger of Hadar on the spectator and while we were in combat the petrified Drow in the spell were taking damage as if they were outside of turn-based mode. Dhourn and another Drow just died while I waited a bit during my turn.

Familiar away from the party, use them to destroy all petrified drow… he doesn’t trigger via doing this method

Half elf drow here, Spectator managed to unpetrify Dhourn and one other drow. I hit dhourn once with my imp pet to break his charm. Then killed spectator without damaging the drows again. Could talk to dhourn after and by choosing "more interested in the twit", "had to kill filro" and "deception: nothing" I got the option to leave without fightning him. This way he stays alive, but you don't get the memory gem or the icy hevle

Uhm, I didn't fight with him and went to rest. When I came back there was no one.. is there any change to find him now? I wanna have my Icy helve :(

                                  • Anonymous

I was able to talk him down as a male half drow. You just need to mention Filro and that you killed him. you will then get a option that lets you use deception and he just says you can be on your way now.

You can disguise self as a female drow and choose options that make him completely non-hostile, giving you the stone. Also, you can technically pickpocket all of the drow afterwards anyway with some creative use of basilisk oil and invisibility, if loot is your concern.

Just tested after full release: If you fight the spectator and give it time to un-freeze all drows, Dhourn will break free of the charm along the fight. He just stood around for a bit, until one of the charmed drow attacked him. He got killed by them, I never hit him, nor any other drow. Just skipped turns till all were unfrozen, killed spectator. I can now talk to the peaceful drow that are left (all other survive). Two have a bit more to say. Apparently they were employed by Dhourn, he promised treasure or smth. They say they will be alright and you can just leave them there. If you are looking for a way to leave the poor lads alive :)

If you have the movement or extra bonus action pushing the de petrified drow also knocks them out of the spectator's spell and they become neutral without damaging them.

If the spectator did not unpetrify Dhourn before you killed it, you can apply Basilisk Oil to the petrified Dhourn to cure him.

Spectator did not unpetrify dhourn on their first turn, finished the fight with only one unpetrifried drow, long rested and all the drows disappeared. Hoping you guys can avoid the same bug

Dhourn will disapear if you complete the forge questline, even if still petrified, meaning you can't finish the Mourning Frost weapon.

You can use Calm Emotions spell to turn the Drow into neutrals, who then will fight the Spectator as well, since it's a Charmed condition.

                                                  • Anonymous

The drow are freed from control if they're damaged and attack the spectator. In my fight, the spectator killed Dhourn, and the rest of the drow remained friendly/neutral to the party. No battle.

                                                    • Anonymous

Not sure how many are aware but you can peacefully have him surrender the Memory Shard. My female drow talked to him and had a Drow conversation option. He gave up the shard and began to meditate.
