Barcus Wroot Dialogue Options
At the Blighted Village
The events during his interaction will determine the outcomes of the quest: Rescue the Gnome
- When first found at the Blighted Village, Barcus Wroot is in a tight spot, tied to the blade of a windmill to the amusement of a group of goblins, led by Fezzerk. If you manage to convince Fezzerk to leave him alone, or end up defeating him, you can free Barcus. Use the button that says Brake to free him, the other one will send the Deep Gnome flying.
- If you choose to free him, he asks what you want in return. Barcus will tell you he is looking for a friend that has gone missing. He also points out that if you find his belongings, you can have them (can be found in the basement of the windmill). After this, he will leave.
Dialogue options:
Barcus Wroot: You saved me. Now you'll extort me. That's how this works, yes?
- I'd rather know how you got caught
- You owe me nothing
- Yes. My reward - now
After your conversation, he will leave.
At the Grymforge
He can be found again at the Grymforge. And again, he has been captured, this time by the Duergar. He is working as a slave on the digging site, attempting to remove the rubble to free True Soul Nere. If you manage to free him. He will insist on his search for his friend Wulbren, but you can convince him that it will lead to a third capture. This will make him change his mind and he can join your camp.
At the Last Light Inn
When you reach the Last Light Inn, he will leave your camp. He can be found on the 1st floor of the Last Light Inn, in the southeast corner. Here, he will act as a merchant.

saved him from the windmill, saved him from nere, and told the dwarves to leave the slaves behind. but forgot to actually talk to him at grymforge and now the place is abandoned. will he show up at last light anyway? or is this questline just over for me now
- Anonymous
If you are confused about why he won't talk to you in the grymforge, found out it's bc even if yo uwin the battle by siding with Brinvar, you have to kill ALL the duergar and betray him >:-) before Barcus will truly be free

Saved him from the windmill, then rescued him from the Duergar, freed Wulbren. Then he talks to me at the end of Act 2 and says that Wulbren is gonna do something bad. Barcus runs around the outside of Moonrise Towers and runs through the holy fire on the ground and dies instantly. Didn't save except for before the fights :(((((

I went to the underdark and explored and cleared all of the grymforge and mychonid area. And then I went to the Blighted Village. Barcus was never attached to the windmill... he was just dead. Is this normal? Was I late to the party?

I had a problem, where after saving him in Grymforge he would just go "Well, you did it" and nothing after that. Couldn't talk him into joining my camp or anything. I didn't know what to do and no one else seemed to have that problem, I tried reloading and stuff but nothing worked. Then I tried talking to him with Astarion (instead of my main, original character that usually handles dialogue) and it worked. He didn't want to talk to me, but he was fine with talking to Astarion. Got him in my camp now xd

If you make it to the Last Light Inn make sure to draw the Winged Horrors away from him or Jaheira's bitchass won't hesitate to ice him

I have him in my camp and he has the Merchant Icon on the map. Does he turn into Merchant later on? Gonna make life much easier for players if he does.

I don't recommend misclicking the two levers, especially if you haven't saved recently. R.I.P. Little Birdy, you'll be missed

I can't believe I've done that quest so many times now and never realised that his name is BARCUS WROOT. Like, Larian Please xP

If you rescue him a second time at the Temple of Shar/Duergar camp he can become a camp follower, AKA Halsyn, Scratch, Volo, Owlbear cub etc

Saved him at Grymforge, slavers are told off, no more Duergar. Yet he insist on not speaking to me, as he isn't allowed to take breaks. Any ideas?
