Scratch Dialogue Options
Scratch can be found protecting its master, unbeknownst to it that its master is already dead. You can convince it to follow you to your camp. There you can pet Scratch, and it can retrieve some items to you such as a Potion of Healing.
- Reach out to pet him.
- Sidestep him to get to the corpse
- Shoo him away.
If you attempt to pet him he won't let you.
- [ANIMAL HANDLING] Kneel - you mean no harm.
- [PERCEPTION] Peer at his collar
- [INTIMIDATION] Stand down!
- Leave.
If you use Intimidation and pass the check, Scratch will stand down.
- Take a closer look at him
- Pet him.
- Leave
If you choose to him pet him now, he will allow you.
- Motion him to follow.
- Leave him to his sorrow.
Ask him to come, and he will need more convincing.
- Hold out your hand so he can follow your scent to camp
- Leave him to his sorrow.
After this interaction, you can examine his master's body and his belongings. You can then find Scratch at the camp.

Scratch Notes and Tips
- Throw a ball in his presence and he will fetch it, truly a good boy.
- The longer he is in your camp the more often he will bring you random things (including healing potions).
- Anonymous
Top tip. If you use throwing weapons, Scratch will automatically retrieve them for you. He's a good boy.

Wish his summon could level up like him at camp, the extra HP would be really nice

Every time i pet Scratch, he looks at me with such level of trust that i almost shed a tear and think to myself - "He is about to be euthanized, isn't he?"

For those of you that have done the Rivington quest for Scratch and have lost his summon once you've completed it, I found that keeping Scratch's ball in your inventory when doing the quest keeps Scratch's summon once you finish the quest. Maybe losing or keeping the summon is some sort of glitch?

In rivington you can find his owners (sword coast couriers) and even if you win the interaction you lose scratch. What a dogshit interaction.

I yelled at his dead master and Scratch attacked so I killed him.

Just learned that Scratch can't be summoned along with any of the "Find Familiars" same with Cheeky Quasit kind of sad.

If you want to go back to camp but still want Scratch around to travel with you without having to use a short rest: 1. Make sure he is not following you 2. You or him walk far away from each other. 3. Teleport to camp. Scratch won't teleport to camp with you if you do it this way, this is tedious but if you want him to follow you this is the way. Other alternative is to have a different character summon Scratch preferably someone you will always use and when you want to go to camp have the follower ungroup then you can teleport. Also small tip: Scratch can hold a torch and can use it to attack.
Found a couple ball items called "Scratch's Ball" in the wine cellar of the Highberry's place in Act 3. They just seem like regular balls though, and you can't play fetch with them. Seems odd they're named after him though

so the first thing he brought me was supposed to be his ball, yeah... that turned into a bone somehow

What does having Scratch summoned do? And can he permanently die?
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I like his summon, but it sucks that you go back to camp he stops being your summon so you have to recast him again after a short rest. At least let him be with you till you unsummon him or he dies as a summon.

when going through the swamps scratch got damage and when trying to resummon the skill summon was lost, cant figure how to get it back, tried throwing the ball at camp and nothing

Do not lose the ball Scratch gives you to play with.
In Act 3, if you resolve a quest favorably (free the dogs, keep Scratch), he will remain at your camp but you'll lose his Summoning skill. Apparently, the only way to get it back is to throw the ball he gave you. Looks like some weird bug they'll probably fix.
Also, it's a good idea to pick up his previous owner's Personal note as it opens some dialogues in the Post office.

There is a major bug in act 3 at the post office, when they ask for scratch back even if you pass the speech check and you keep scratch. The ability to summon him will be gone as if you let the dog go.
- Anonymous
you can get some special dialogue if you go back to the post office his previous owner worked for while summoned, but you may not like what they have to say :(

I lost the ball Scratch gave me, I threw it at camp and forgot to pick it up, now I can't find it anywhere. The other ball isn't allow me to summon him. Is the skill Summon Scratch useless now?

When Scratch gains the Scratch's Sniff buff, use a Shovel from your inventory around the area where he's pointing, usually a few meters in front of him.
- Anonymous
I'm surprised there's no info about his dialogue through "speak with animals"
- Anonymous
If he dies when you have him summoned through the Find Familiar spell, he will not die permanently.
I summoned him through find familiar and intentionally killed him and after a short rest, I can use the summon familiar spell again to summon him.

I walked by a mound of dirt and scratch's sniff activated revealing the location.

I war able to summon him as a warlock. You find him with the ball in his mouth and ask him for it. I did pet him often.
- Anonymous
Just a note for anyone confused about him not going after the ball near gales tent. The ball he gives you has an action cost on it which indicates it's the one you throw for him to catch. While the other ball does not have the action cost, indicating it's just a prop

Scratch the camp follower is level 2 and has 14HP. Scratch the familiar is level 1 and has 5HP. OK, but why?

Anybody know how his "scratch and sniff" mechanic works? He ran off and started barking at a spot, but I couldn't get to/see what he was barking at. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It is possible to have Scratch become a summonable familiar. His description claims he's useful at sniffing out hidden things in the world. I am unsure what exactly triggered his ability to become a familiar, but at the time I had these features: Speak with animals, summon familiar, and was a Ranger. I obtained the ability to summon him around the time he presented me with a ball. Prior to this, I used speak with animals to converse with him in camp, and pet him nearly every time prior to long resting. I suspect he has a hidden appreciation bar and once it reaches a certain point, you can summon him. I'm unsure if having the spell to summon familiars is necessary.

Does Scratch not appear in the Selune temple campsite? I can't find him anywhere, dead or alive...

if you LET HIM KEEP HIS BALL IN THE FIRST INTERACTION IN CAMP YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO SUMMON HIM AND YOU WONT EVER GET THE SCRATCH BALL. POOR
