Lorroakan is a Boss as well as an NPC (use link for details pertaining to character and quests) in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3).  BG3 Lorroakan is a level 8 human mage.  He is a petty, arrogant, selfish, narcissist who styles himself as the great archmage of Baldur's Gate. In truth however he is nothing more than an unremarkably talented charlatan.

Bosses in BG3 are powerful enemies that have increased health and pose a bigger challenge for players.

BG3 Larroakan Boss Guide

Larroakan Boss Tips

A simple way to cheese the entire fight is to use psychic spells such as  Telekinesis, particularly on Larroakan himself, as these spells do not incur any thorns/retaliation damage from him.  Be wary of using Hunter's Mark and similar spells/abilities on him as these also cause him to use his retaliation reaction Elemental Retort.

If you position yourself correctly in front of the Water Myrmidon before the start of the fight you can simply use Telekinesis to throw Larroakan down onto a set of candles on the floor below.  When facing directly at his Book Throne simply look down to your left and you should see the candles.  This will take Larroakan out of play for a few turns and do substantial damage to him (usually ~50% of his health).  If you can follow this up with a Level 4 or higher Magic Missile, this is usually enough damage to kill Larroakan in two turns without fear of him using Elemental Retort.  Even if he is left standing with only a few points of health left and triggers his reaction, Counterspell will make quick work of it and negate the damage.

Focusing on taking out the Air Myrmidon is a sound choice since doing so will remove it's Raging Vortex AoE, which acts as a Silence spell with the possibility of also damaging your party or forcing them to go Prone.

Dousing certain myrmidons with effects like Encrusted with Forst will also add vulnerabilities to some of them (Air Myrmidon gains Cold and Lightning Vulnerability)

If you chose to fight with Dame Aylin (aka Nightsong) then keeping her topped up with healing and other combat buffs like Bless and/or Shield of Faith will increase her survivability and allow her to deal out a moderate-to-high amount of punishment against the various adds in the fight, as she goes around the arena damaging enemies with Lunar Smite and Moonbeam.

Gale or any other Evocation Wizards are particularly strong in this fight thanks to a combination of their large AoE/high-damage spells and Sculpt Spells feature.  Likewise, having a Wizard with Counterspell allows you to mitigate Rolan's Fireball and Thunderwaves, which allows you to effectively neutralize and ignore him for the whole duration of the fight, thus allowing you to focus down the myrmidons and Larroakan.

CAUTION: Be careful NOT to let one of your characters get Shoved (all enemies can attempt to Shove and Rolan has Thunderwave) off the main platform as doing so will likely cause at least one of the myrmidons to Elemental Warp (teleport) to them.  Sometimes the myrmidons can accidentally fly or teleport to the bottom-most platform where the two invulnerability dome-shields are; if they land there they will become untargetable and unable to return back up to the rest of the fight, forcing you to restart the encounter.

Also, if you want to use Speak with Dead after the fight make sure NOT to use any status effect spells (burn, acid, necrotic, radiance, frost, electric) to kill Larroakan OR Rolan.  Try to ensure one of your party members and NOT Dame Aylin lands the final blow, as she will likely burn him with radiance.  Psychic, Force, and regular ranged or melee final blows will ensure you preserve their bodies for any post-mortem interrogations.

      Uh ... not sure exactly why, but when I entered the tower Rolan sided with me during the fight. Managed to keep him alive and now he's moving his siblings in and settling in as the Master of Ramazith's Tower ...

      • On Tactician - This is supposed to be a big/hard fight, but it is not - not even close - due to the very fact that the main villain here is only a mid-level wizard.

        Lorroakan:
        Level = 8;
        HP = 127;
        AC = 12;
        Does not seem to use his reaction to counter player spells.
        In terms of magic power, he's only comparable to Balthazar (level 8 undead wizard that can cast a level 5 spell).

        Dame Aylin:
        Level = 11;
        HP = 85.
        Her best spell = Moonbeam cast at base level 2.

        Rolan:
        Level = 10;
        HP = 57.
        Every party member capable of 57 damage can kil him in 1 turn.

        If the player sides with Lorroakan, there isn't a serious fight left. If sides with Aylin, the fight is essentially against 4 level 11 elementals (total of their HP = ~500). In theory, every player party of level 11 can have all 4 of those elementals + other summons of level ~10 => significantly more powerful than Lorroakan. A Druid can even be one of those elementals but has 2 (or 5 if hasted) more attacks per turn than they do.

          I lied to him that Aylin was vanished, and assulted him by my Owl bear claws....3 claws with 1 crushing flight........ the rest of minions are just a matter of time......

            You can cast dominate person on him, if it succeeds he will follow your party, then just walk over to the balcony and push him off the ledge.

            You can even hop down and grab his loot because he will land below.

              The cheapest way I`ve managed to find is:
              - Loot the vault underneath the tower beforehand, one with Annals of Karsus and stuff. You`ll get tons of top tier scrolls, including disintegration and dome of complete invulnerability.
              - Before teleporting into the fight - give the dome scroll to one of your non-dps heroes and drink an elixir of vigilance to ensure he will act before any enemy can.
              - Once the fight starts all your group will be standing tight in one spot - cast the dome over and enjoy complete invul.
              - Cast/shoot anything you have in the Boss - his rebuke skills wont dmg you at all. His minions will tp into cqb under you dome and wont be able to deal any dmg. Deal with them last, once the dome is gone.
              - Easy win.

              P.S. I managed to get quite an ironical fight with him. Discovered the secrets of the "Necromancy of Thay" just before the fight. Gale was able to knock boss prone with the Ice-storm, I`ve summoned 6 ghouls of Thay and since the boss was prone - they were able to use their ability on him with 100% chance and have eaten him alive even before he had a chance to act at all. He wanted immortality - he got a show of how it actually works.

                How to cheese this fight:
                1- preparation before the combat: buy the scroll of Disintegration from the librarian downstairs. Cast shields/buffs of Gale or whatever mage you're going to use. (I've also used one of those potions which gives you immunity to all damages).
                2- try to let Gale survive as much as possible
                3- cast disintegrate on this mofo.
                4- clean the rest of the minions.
                5- GG wo

                (You can still loot him even if you've disintegrated him but you won't be able to cast speak with the deads)

                  Very sad to find out you cant gain Lorroakan's ability to summon 4 Elementals at the same time through items or level 10 feat of wizard subclasses. Looks fun.

                  • Anonymous

                    Evil playthrough had Rolan dead in Act 1 along w/ the rest of the grove. Lorroakan was alone in his tower thanks to that. Killed him in 2 rounds on a solo playthrough using the necklace that lets you paralyze on crit. Lorroakan never got a single attack or reaction off. Elementals were easy enough to cleanup.

                    • Anonymous

                      i had a very easy time with him myself. the air elemental cast an AoE silence, so i just had this lovely female go enrage and throw him into that cloud. wont sure if it was him being prone. or the fact he was silence. but it made it so he could not do that big damage rebound while the rest of the party charge him and killed him on turn 1 in tactics mode

                      really not a hard fight if you use tactics

                      • Anonymous

                        So it's a ****in lie that Phantasmal Killer doesn't invoke the reaction. Gale casted it, and then immediately was one-shot by this ****er's reaction.

                          Fck sake, i thrown hunger with warlock and after battle ended, Rolan took damage and turned fcking hostile!!! Had to repeat entire combat!!!

                            The spell Planar Binding is amazing in this fight. The Myrmidions have poor wisdom saves and can be easily brought under your control. I brought the Earth Myrmidion under my control, and on its turn it shoved Larroakan off of the platform and attacked the one of the other Myrmidions for huge damage. Lorroakan landed below, took nearly 50% of his health in fall damage, and then I flew down and killed him. After the fight was over, I sneak attacked the Myrmidion and killed it in 1 round
