Mirkon is an NPC in Baldur's Gate 3. Mirkon can be found at Secluded Cove. At first, his name shows as Entranced Child and meeting him begins the Investigate the Beach quest. There is a massive amount of NPCs in Baldur's Gate 3, and their ideals, needs and way of living are strictly related to the actions they perform during the course of the game. Their attitude towards you and your party may be affected by the deeds and decisions you and your party taken on.

Mirkon Dialogue Options
You'll find Mirkon by the beach through the Emerald Grove at the Secluded Cove. He is entranced by a song.
- I don't. hear anything. Come back to shore.
- Focus and try to hear what he hears.
- Leave.
If you try to listen, you will be charmed by the Harpy's song as well.
- Close your eyes and listen to the song
- [WISDOM] Struggle against the music's pull.
- You can break free from the effects of the spell if you succeed in a Wisdom check (11). Either way, the battle with Harpies starts.
- After the battle is finished, if you ask him if he is alright, he will answer that you should go meet with Mol in Tiefling Hideout. He tells you to find Doni in order to get in. Doni can be found at The Hollow.
- When you meet Mirkon in Tiefling Hideout, he tells you that he wrote a story about you, which he offers as a reward for saving his life.
- You can also not find him fast enough, and he has sadly passed by the time you get there.

As another commenter mentioned, if you advance the Main Quest to the conclusion of Act 1 before helping this kid, he'll probably be dead when you show up here.

there is an opportunity to rob him in this scene when playing as a thief

The Harpies in this area can be sniped in real time with a short bow and will never aggro you if you damage Mirkon first, which causes them to spawn. The AI never saw themselves being sniped as actual aggro.

If you are a Rogue you can pick his pocket while he's distracted. Still has a harpy fight.

How tragic, I went to do the main quest to save the temple from the goblins and I ended up not paying attention to this kid, I only went to see his dead body in the harpies' nest.

There seems to be a bug - if you go to Mol's hideout before meeting Mirkon and make the children flee, you can't talk to him after killing the harpies, and the quest won't close
As weird as it seems, you do not need to save him to get the Leave No One Behind achievement.
