Barth is an NPC in Baldur's Gate 3. Barth can be found at the gates of the Druid Grove. Barth is part of Aradin's group of adventurers. After the fight, if he survives, he enters the grove with the rest of the group. There is a massive amount of NPCs in Baldur's Gate 3, and their ideals, needs, and way of living are strictly related to the actions they perform during the course of the game. Their attitude towards you and your party may be affected by the deeds and decisions you and your party have taken on.

AnonymousYou can lift the medallion before Meli gets it, gotta be super quick though. If you do, it skips Barth and Meli's fight. If you lift the medallion AFTER Meli takes it off Barth, it changes the dialogue by giving you an additional option of "Don't worry, the kids good. I'm better." - You hand it back. Meli is supposedly impressed, Barth is thankful. Initially. You can then ask Barth if you can have the Medallion, and if you insist, starts a fight. Most likely the main path is to let Meli nab the medallion, let them argue (worth it for the Inspiration for Urchins.) Then go steal it back in the Thieflings hideout. Doing so has Meli mouth off at you, but Barth is happy, and you can either extort him, or he gives you a reward willingly. You can then steal the medallion off of Barth again, and sell it, or return it to the Thieflings stash. Unfortunately, Meli won't react even if you do have the piece on you when he returns to the hide out, no matter what route you go.

What's up with his locked? Is it a quest item? I pick-pocketed it, but have no idea if it's important

Early source of a hand crossbow if you kill him during the initial goblin attack on the grove (you won't get in trouble for it)
A1 Maxexp, while still getting his hand crossbow:
1. Save them on goblin assault and let them enter the hollow
2. Let Meli pickpocket his locket and pickpocket it back from Meli (during dialogue), to be able to choose "Don't worry, the kids good. I'm better." - options during dialogue (both are happy).
3. Optional: Talk with Aradin about his job and Halsin. (Roleplay)
4. Ask Barth to hand over his locket. Choose "Attack".
5. Kill Barth, Aradin and Remira for 3x 20 exp + loot, without anyone interfering. :)
