Astarion is a Companion in Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3). BG3 Astarion can be met early in Act 1 while players explore the beach on the crash site of the Nautiloid. Astarion is a High-Elf Rogue, and a useful addition to your party thanks to his trickery skills. See The Pale Elf for Astarion's Questline. Companions assist the player by joining his/her party and have their own backstories and unique characteristics. They all have their own Classes and starting equipment, but you can change their classes via Respec in camp. Companions can also be selected as an Origin in the Character Creation screen allowing players to play from their point of view.

Astarion prowled the night as a vampire spawn for centuries, serving a sadistic master until he was snatched away. Now he can walk in the light, but can he leave his wicked past behind?

Where to find Astarion in BG3

Astarion can be found after the crash of the Nautiloid in Act 1. You will meet Astarion by exploring the south-west portion of the Ravaged Beach, where he will be asking for help to deal with "one of those brain things".

As you explore the beach area, you will come across the destroyed Nautiloid wreck and can go through it and slightly up a hill. You'll find him there calling for help. See Astarion's Location on the BG3 Map.

BG3 Astarion Quest Walkthrough

To complete Astarion's Questline, you must first meet him in the south-west area of the Ravaged Beach in Act 1. He will be calling for help and ask that you deal with one of the brain monsters. This is actually a trap, and he will jump you from behind and hold a dagger to your neck if you aren't careful. You can shrug out of this with certain checks, but if you keep your cool everything will be fine and Astarion can join your party.

This will begin his quest:

How to Romance Astarion in BG3

In this Astarion Romance Guide, we explore the general path toward gaining Astarion's approval and what opportunities you have to share some moments with him. This will be updated as more is revealed throughout the game. Astarion becomes available for romance when a certain point of approval has been reached. Astarion can be difficult to get high approval with due to his alignment toward less acceptable acts. He finds joy in cruelly mocking people and will root for Enemies sometimes, as he has a sort of kinship towards others who are labeled as monsters or malcontent, which might make it hard to avoid making decisions that he disapproves of as you go through the game and try to do good. That being said, he also places significant value on personal loyalty due to his context as a newly-freed slave. His approval is shaped by situations that reaffirm this principle, making it possible to earn his favor without resorting to malevolent actions.

As someone who delights in the misery of others and prioritizes his own survival and self-interest, Astarion will give his approval for actions that express selfishness and agreement to whatever he wants to do. In contrast, he will disapprove of kindness and generosity that won't derive any benefits. Having a silver tongue himself, he'll approve of decisions that lean toward theatrics and drama. He will also be the single Companion who is in favor of using and developing the tadpole powers, as they are essentially what made it possible for him to be freed from slavery by his former owner. As such, decisions that reflect this desire will gain his approval and he will in general be against pushing hard to remove the tadpole. Sympathizing with his situation will gain approval from him while judging him for his situation will push him away.

BG3 Astarion Romance Guide Act I

Your relationship with Astarion can officially begin during Act I even before the Quest Save the Refugees, unlike how it was in Early Access. Keeping the general guidelines above in mind and eventually getting his approval up, players may approach him at the camp for a talk. At this point, your approval rating with him should be High so try to explore and do a lot of other things before tackling the Quest for more chances to get your approval up, if it's still lacking at this point. One way to gain good approval from him is to allow him to drink your blood whenever he needs a fix, and give it willingly. It's important to note that if you allow him to suck your blood for too long, your playthrough could literally end as you die from losing too much blood. This option will become available once your character has confirmed that Astarion is a vampire. The process of doing so itself also has options that can give you more approval from him.

As more events unfold and you meet specific people through your journey whose plights concern Astarion, you'll learn more and more about his history, particularly his past with his ex-master, Cazador. Eventually, with a high enough approval with him, you'll be able to talk to him and he'll have very specific things to say to you. You're on the right track with Astarion if when you talk to him, he forwardly calls you darling and says that you've been on his mind. Just choose the appropriate responses to further his confession - as long as you don't downright reject him, you'll have your chance. As with the others, he'll propose to wait until dark when the others are asleep before you meet up with him for your little rendevous. When night comes, simply sleep on your bed roll and he'll come for you. You don't have to worry about being forward in the dialogue options to follow and just keep affirming the situation to get to the intimate scene. As a bonus, you'll get to learn more about him afterward, specifically the markings on his back.

If this situation doesn't happen for you even if your approval is high enough, you likely just have a backlog of scenes to tackle at camp from not frequently doing Long Rests. Regardless you'll have your chance after you clear out the Goblin Camp toward the end of the first Act. During the celebration, you can speak to Astarion and eventually ask him what his idea of fun is. You can then agree and he'll come for you as mentioned above once the others are asleep. This scene, while seemingly not anything conclusive, will mark the start of your mutual affection for each other.

BG3 Astarion Romance Guide Act II

During Act II, the events that will mainly concern Astarion will be Raphael's deal of taking care of his little devil problem in exchange for translating the scars that Cazador had left on Astarion's back. Depending on your approval level with him, there will be a scene at camp where he tries to make out what the scars mean by himself. This can happen before or after you take Raphael's deal. After taking the deal, you can speak to him at camp to progress his romance. Choose the dialogue options that respect his discoveries about himself and affirm his recovery from abuse. Eventually, you'll get to choose to show him that you care about him. This will lead to him admitting he has no idea how to go about having a relationship, but that whatever you have together is nice.

At Moonrise Towers, you'll come across a Drow with a penchant for sanguine machinations. She'll be desperate to be bitten by Astarion who she immediately recognizes as a vampire. You'll have the option to make Astarion bite her or not. Choosing to respect his wishes to not do it will grant you approval with him, as well as a conversation about it when you speak to him at camp soon after and you can enjoy the scene above if you haven't already. It will end the same way, but this time just start with the topic of his gratefulness for you not forcing him to drink the Drow's blood.

BG3 Astarion Romance Guide Act III

When you reach Act III, you'll eventually be able to progress his Companion Quest, The Pale Elf. At the climax of the Quest, you'll learn that Cazador is trying to enact a ritual called the Rite of Profane Ascension, where he'll attain ascendancy as a vampire in exchange for sacrificing all of the vampires he has created under him, including Astarion. Normally, this would be easy for him to do as his vampires would all have to follow his every command, but due to the tadpole, he has to forcibly have Astarion cooperate. After defeating Cazador at the end of the Quest, you'll have the chance to progress your romance with Astarion with two different outcomes.

Astarion will want to do the ritual himself, sacrificing all his fellow vampires under Cazador, and Cazador himself. He'll ask for your help to do so. Refusing to help him at all will result in him still killing Cazador and ultimately leaving the party due to your indifference. If you choose the first option and decide to help him ascend, you'll use your connection through the tadpole to enter his mind and help him complete the ritual. All of the other vampires will die, but in return, Astarion will become an ascendant vampire - impervious to the sun and with a new, stronger bite Action. Later on at camp, you'll have the culminating romance scene with Astarion where he starts in disbelief that you let him complete the ritual and kill all those people for ascendancy. You'll eventually have the option to become a vampire created by him. Choose the dialogue option affirming this decision and enjoy the final intimate scene with him. Afterward, choose to kneel as he turns you into a vampire.

If you choose the second option and ask about all the people that will get sacrificed, he'll ask you to trust him. Afterward, an Insight check will let you follow this route as you try to figure out what's driving him to do all this. Choose the options next that will put the focus on him and show that you care what he'll think of himself or the consequences the ritual will bring him if he pushes through with it. You'll have to succeed in a Persuasion check for either dialogue option. If successful, Astarion will relent and admit that you're right - he can be better than Cazador. You can then choose to release the vampire prisoners if you want to. At camp soon after, he'll say he'll need to start getting used to the shadows again it all resulted in him staying a vampire spawn and the tadpole's effect could end any time. You can either reassure him that you'll find a way to keep using the tadpole, or that he did the right thing. After that, you can reassure him that you'll be there with him. He'll then bring you to the graveyard where he rose from his grave as a vampire. Choose the dialogue options that affirm your love for him and then enjoy a nice moment of peace. Afterward, if you choose to have a little with him or say you thought he'd never ask, you'll have one last intimate love scene to culminate your romance. If you choose to just stay there together, you'll enjoy a quieter culmination.

Astarion Approval Guide in Baldur's Gate 3

If you are looking to befriend or romance Astarion, you will have to get his approval up. Companions are not black and white in BG3, but they have some characteristics you can consider when forming your party and making game choices.

General Personality Tips

  • Astarion enjoys making fun of people, especially when it's cruel.
  • He especially enjoys the suffering of others.
  • Astarion will like good deeds if it is funny enough for his sense of humor (Like Rescue a Hostage victim and then Extort him or Help Karlach not because it is the right deed but in his words "Are you agreeing to commit murder for someone you barely know? Count me in."
  • Astarion values personal loyalty due to his circumstances. He gains approval from multiple events affirming this principle. This makes it possible to get him high approval without being evil.
  • He is primarily concerned with his personal survival, Self-interest and ensured freedom against Cazador.
  • The Tadpole nullified his Vampiric Banes (Running Water, Invitation indoors and damage from the Sun) and also broke the Mind control that Cazador held on him. Thus is extremely attached to it and the only companion (as of early access) who wants to continue to use the Tadpole's powers. Also the only companion that gains approval for dialogue that encourages its use.
  • He hates playing as a hero and thus gains disapproval when the Player commits to heroic deeds.
  • This part isn't defining the alignment of the Companion.
  • To avoid disapproval events, make sure the companion is Either left in camp or just far enough away from the dialogue.

Check out our Companion Guide for all compiled approval instances

Note this guide is a work in progress. The information below reflects what was available during Early Access. Some situations, flags and events may have changed. Please feel free to edit this page and contribute to the guide.

Astarion Endings Guide in Baldur's Gate 3

Help Astarion With The Ascension  Ritual

Ending Requirements and Conditions:

  • Help Astarion with the ritual
  • See the ritual until the end

How to Obtain Ending:

  • Provide help to Astarion when he asks for it
  • Agree to letting all of the spawns die to finish the ritual
  • Choose all the options that will allow the ritual to continue

ENDING DESCRIPTION

Once you have defeated Cazador inside his secret room, he will retreat to rest in his sarcophagus. Astarion will open his stone coffin and wake him up from his healing sleep. Astarion will now confront Cazador and the player will be faced with a choice. For this particular ending, we will be helping Astarion with the ritual. Astarion realizes that he can either kill Cazador to be free of him, or proceed with the ritual to turn himself into a Vampire Ascendant, and become more powerful. Astarion will then ask for your help and giving you the following choices:

  1. All right, what do you need?
  2. If I help you complete the ritual, it will kill all these people.
  3. Didn't you hear him? If you complete the ritual, you'll be consumed.
  4. I'm not doing this.

Choose the first option to help Astarion with the Ascension ritual. Then, Astarion will reveal his plan to put the same curse on Cazador by linking your minds together so he can see the scars that was placed on his back and copy them onto Cazador's body. Halsin will speak up and renounce Astarion's plan, saying that to sacrifice many, the 7,000 spawns, is an abomination. Astarion ignores Halsin and will plead out to you once more, asking for your help.

  1. Enter Astarion's mind so he can proceed with the ritual.
  2. No, we can't. I won't help you.

Choose the first option again. Then, Astarion can finally see the marks on his back and will begin to carve out the same mark on Cazador's back as he writhes in pain. The weakened Cazador drops down to his knees before Astarion, as Astarion grabs his staff. Astarion will now begin the Ascension ritual that will consume all of the spawns. During this ritual, Halsin will speak up once more to not let the ritual continue and you will get two choices:

  1. Let the ritual continue.
  2. Stop Astarion.

Choose the first one to allow Astarion to finish the ritual, but take note that you will receive Halsin and Shadowheart's disapprovals. As soon as the ritual is over, Astarion exclaims that he is finally free from hunger, at the cost of 7,000 spawns. Doing this will complete the quest: The Pale Elf, and Astarion will gain new abilities:

  • Ascendant Bite
  • Vampire Ascendant

Helping Astarion with the ritual will also give you a chance to loot Cazador's staff called Woe.

Refuse to Help Astarion With The Ascension Ritual

Ending Requirements and Conditions:

  • Refuse to help Astarion with the ritual
  • Reject his pleas, causing him to permanently leave your party

 OR

  • Persuade him that he doesn't need to complete the ritual.
  • Release all of the caged vampire spawn.

How to Obtain Endings:

  • Choose the dialogue options indicated below.

ENDING DESCRIPTION - (Astarion leaves your party permanently)

As Astarion confronts Cazador, he will then ask for your help and give you the following choices:

  1. All right, what do you need?
  2. If I help you complete the ritual, it will kill all these people.
  3. Didn't you hear him? If you complete the ritual, you'll be consumed.
  4. I'm not doing this.

Choose the fourth option here, but Astarion pleads once more and tells you that he can't do it alone. You can reject him again and this will prompt Astarion to go berserk and brutally murder Cazador. He drops to his knees as Cazador turns lifeless. This will result in Astarion leaving your party permanently, and the elf named Dalyria will approach Astarion, asking him if it's truly over.

Astarion will tell her that she can do whatever she wants, but for the spawns who are in the cages, they will share the same fate as Astarion. Meaning if he doesn't get freedom, then, they also won't get it. Astarion will then grab Cazador's staff and break it into two. Then Astarion will turn to face you, and be resentful for not getting the support he asked from you.

The Ending will differ depending on some choices.

  • Astarion may leave you if you interrupt him midway through the Ascension
  • If you force him to stop, he would also leave you
  • IF you allow him to Ascend, he will stay in your party.

The Third Option will have an Astarion with enhanced abilities and be true Vampire while also staying as your party member. He will also Act different after ascension. Astarion as ascended vampire have completely different ending and scenarios than the version of him that stays as a Vampire Spawn. This is considered the Evil ending as Astarion fully loses his remaining sense of humanity and embrace all the darkness and power that being an True Vampire gives.

ENDING DESCRIPTION - (Astarion stays a vampire spawn)

As Astarion confronts Cazador, he will then ask for your help and give you the following choices:

  1. All right, what do you need?
  2. If I help you complete the ritual, it will kill all these people.
  3. Didn't you hear him? If you complete the ritual, you'll be consumed.
  4. I'm not doing this.

Choose the second option. Astarion will try to convince you that it's a bad idea to leave them alive anyway and  persuade you to help him once more. Then, choose the option that requires a [PERSUASION] check, telling him that you want him to live a life he's proud of, which is not this. If you succeed, he will agree that he can be better than Cazador by not going through with the ritual. He will then take 200 years worth of frustration, pain, and anguish out on Cazador, killing him and freeing himself from his control once and for all.

When the other vampire spawn approach Astarion, you will be prompted with a few dialogue choices. Choose the Say nothing. option, allowing Astarion to have his own voice and he'll explain to them that they now have the freedom to choose what they do with their own lives.

You are then given three options to suggest to Astarion when considering the fate of the 7,000 caged vampire spawn. Which are:

  1. They're too dangerous - they need to die.
  2. Let's release them. They deserve the same chances you got.
  3. Why not just leave them? They're not our responsibilities.

Only Option 2, releasing them, can lead to Astarion's Good Ending. He will agree that they are innocent and express sympathy for them. Astarion recognizes that, although ordered against his own will, he is at least partially responsible for their current state. After having chose to free them, Astarion will gradually become more sympathetic as a character and you will see him start to approve of more "good" actions.

The 'Happy' condition gives Astarion the highest Sleight of Hand modifier in the game (afaik). At level 11, Astarion's minimum Sleight of Hand roll is 28, which means you auto-succeed on almost all thefts* (and no longer have to worry about rolling two nat 1s with the advantage from Cat's Grace), e.g., stealing spell scrolls from the vendors in Sorcerous Sundries.**

        Base 10 from Reliable Talent
+6 from Dex (with the +2 ability score buff from the Mirror of Loss***)
        +6 from Expertise
        +1 from Happy
        +3 Sleight of Hand modifier
        +1d4 from Guidance
        +1d4 from Shapeshifter's Boon ring

In Act I, DO NOT KILL THE WEIRD COW. You can get the Gloves of Power (+1 SoH; goblin encounter outside Druid Grove), the Silver Pendant (casts Guidance; on a skeleton near the Harper Cache), and the Smuggler's Ring (+2 SoH/+2 Stealth; on a skeleton in a bush on the river bank under the Risen Road). Later in Act I, you can get the Graceful Cloth (+2 Dex/Adv on Dex checks) from Lady Esther in the Mountain Pass on the way to Rosymorn Monastery Trail.

In Act II, you can get the Shapeshifter's Boon ring from the weird cow (aka ooze), which gives you +1d4 to skill checks.

In Act III, all party members (don't know about hirelings) can get a +2 bonus to a stat of your choice by interacting with the Mirror Loss in the House of Grief on the far-West side of Baldur's Gate. This also raises the chosen stat's maximum from 20 to 24.

*Even without the Mirror of Loss buff, a minimum SoH check of 27 (+5 Dex instead of +6) is going to guarantee auto-successes on stealing the overwhelming majority of items. In my last Tactician playthrough, 27 SoH auto-succeeded on stealing scrolls from Sorcerous Sundries vendors.
**Sorcerous Sundries is the best source of consumable wealth/power in the game.
***Getting the MoL buff requires a bit of RNG. You can bypass this easily with save scumming on Tactician and easier difficulties, but that option isn't available in Honour Mode.

You can attack and kill him before initially meeting him outside the Nautiloid using ranged attacks. If you do, you can then use a scroll of resurrection to revive him. He'll have a unique dialogue and then introduce himself and want to join you.

"Agree to Astarion's request to make you his 'consort'"

Can someone elaborate? Where does this request happen in Wrym's Crossing?

Another guide says "Let Astarion craft his own ‘consort’." Again, not sure where exactly this is triggered at.

So idk if anyone has tried, but if you play as Astarion and DONT use his bite ability for about 1-3 longrests (Depends on what longrest event is gonna trigger.) You'll run into the woods and have an encounter with memory of Cazador where he recites your contract with him. After this you are prompted to drink one of your companion's blood (To death if so) or go into the woods and drink a animal. The reason he tries to drink one of the party members is because in his contract the 1st rule is dont drink intelligent creatures so he wanted to test this theory. Im amusing most people haven't seen this because they use the bite ability as much as possible. If you try to hide your a vampire you get alot of interesting scenarios unfold.

Suggestion for the page: What happens if Astarion doesn't join your party early on?

I went to Cazador's place and Astarion is a "zombie Astarion", and part of the ritual as one of the people suspended in the air.

Just confirmed! To get the approval for walking in on the bugbear and ogre in the Blighted Village:

having a party of just me, Karlach and Astarion had him interrupt me opening the door to ask if he could instead. When I said "do the honours", I gained approval! First party comp I've managed to get this interaction for in like 3 playthroughs

In Act 1; in Grymforge, you gain approval from Astarion if you tell Laridda the truth about Philomeen after encountering the latter and she survives.

Don't let Gale into your party when Astarion tries to complete the ritual, he will tell Astarion it's not worth the sacrifice of 7,000 people, Astarion will comply but then he will leave your party once the cinematic ends with no chance to recover the things you equipped him with

It's kind of weird they gave him 13 INT when he's such an idiot. The first time you meet him he tries to stab you by distracting you with a pig. When you reach the druid grove he disapproves of going talk to the druid for Zevlor IN EXCHANGE FOR MONEY. You're castaways with worms eating your brains in urgent need of medical attention, the only reachable settlement has a refugee crisis, and he's turning down the last bag of gold in the village bc he doesn't want to be a messenger. Dumbass.

After he tried to steal my blood ...
I decided to save and let him drink "just enough"
Agreed on the 3 dialogs to see and ...
He killed my main character, drained me to death.

So that was the final straw, loaded the game back up and when he tried to bite me in my sleep i stabbed him in the heart with a stake.

He wasn't worth the hassle to keep around.

In the Durge run, Astarion approves if you break Pandirma's leg in Druid's Grove. As far as i am aware, no one disapproves of this (Had Lae'zel & Shadowheart in my team, Gale in the camp).

                              Inspirations not mentioned:

Warmonger - Convince Glut to stage a coup, then pick a side
Pied Piper - Successfully influence the gnolls, either break free or continue being subserviant
Know thy clientele - Instigate Z'rell into showing off her gifts from the Absolute
Never trust an honest person - Lie to make your way into the big barn
Always trust a liar - Side with Larroakan against Lady Aylin

For those romancing him: Agreeing to free Yurgir from his contract with Raphael will make Astarion really mad. You can placate him, say you have a plan. If you do complete the quest and break Yurgirs contract (Raphael will not translate Astarions scars this way), he will break up with you/the romance will end. Maybe you can even lose him as a companion there if your approval is low, but not sure. Breaks the romance up tho, and Yurgir isn't even really free cause Raph is a massive d*ck.

If you want to fight the paladin and still keep Astarion as your romance, just do everything as if you would help Yurgir, and at the very end, instead of turning in the quest with him, just shoot him and the fight will trigger - vampire boy will be happy.

I warned one of the upcoming victims in Act III "Investigate the Murders" and Astarion disapproved. On another note, Lae'zel disapproved too, but Gale approved. Hahaha

I got disapproval from telling her but I wanted these character to witness the dark urge moments because I wasn't expecting it so went with it. After the fight, Astarion approves if you admit to Isobel you have the urge to kill her, push back the urge and then say you wont follow the orders(the orders one is what proc the approval). Both Shadowheart and Astarion approved for me, nothing for Lae'zel.

Page is wrong: Not ascending Astarion WON'T make him permanently leave your party.
I'm not sure how people are triggering making him leave if you refuse (low approval, maybe?), but I stopped him from completing the ritual and not only did he return to camp with the rest of the party, but he thanked me for stopping him after.

playing as astarion now and trying to hide the vampire nature as long as the game will let me. thus i drink from ungrouped hirelings out of view from my party. but i noticed 3 oddities so far:

                                          - drinking the blood offering for the absolute during the goblin party does make shadowheart realize that i am a vampire, even tho i was able to do that on DU run too.
                                          - biting for the STR buff in moonrise with a full group did not reveal my vampire nature
                                          - i cannot reveal my vampire nature to Minthara only to the other companions, would have liked to see her reaction to it.

Astarion will also approve if you question what's wrong/what Lorin sees in Ethel's house, then tell him to look at you and he calls you the monster he sees (without spoiling it) and you have the option to roar. Both Astarion and Laezel will approve

Astarion approves if you tell Baelen Bonecloak (the dwarf in the patch of Bibberbangs near the Myconid colony in the Underdark) that scrolls don't come cheap if you have a scroll of misty step on you and hold it up during the conversation.

When speaking to Gortash, the following options give Astarion approval:
                                                - telling Gortash 'your on your own' (this seems to be whole party approval)
                                                - When watching the ceremony, both 'I wouldn't miss it' and 'fine let's get this over with' give approval (the first one gives karlach disapproval also, the second also gives Wyll approval)

After you read the infernal, he'll ask what it says and if you choose option 3 (the joking, rhyming one) you'll get a disapproval.

In Act 3, both telling Ethel "No - surrender the child immediately" and later on saying "That's it - cough her up, hag" after throwing the hag's bane will grant you approval with him :)

I was able to get approval from the event:
2 - Walk in on a bugbear and an ogre named Grukkoh and Buthir having sex in an abandoned barn the Blighted Village.

Just confirming that it still works.
The first time I tried, Shadowheart told me not to do it. Got nothing from Astarion. Both Shadowheart and Astarion had fair/neutral approval. I reloaded, switched Shadowheart out, then tried the scene again. This time, Astarion asked if he could do the honor of opening the door and I gladly let him. After the fight was over, he had a chat bubble above his head.

Funnily enough, it was the dialogue that initiates his sex scene. I finally got his approval up to "good".

Nothing like weird bugbear-on-ogre sex to get you in the mood LMAO. He even asked while we were both covered in blood and dirt. That's romance, baby!

Picking the funniest option and still helping all the NPC's out landed me at max approval with Astarion by act three and everyone else still likes me. I do regularly use persuasion/deception and intimidation if someone deserves it. I also always pick options that emphasize personal freedom so long as it isn't "harmful".

Just give him 8/17/14/14/12/10 and not only does it fix the missing point but you can also go Arcane Trickster with less hassle if you want.

                                                                                      • Anonymous

Is he the best pickpocketer you can get in the game, even with min-maxing hirelings?

His ''happy'' buff gives +1 to this ability checks so i've been wondering if there is any other way to create a character that has higher sleight of hand than Astarion.

                                                                                        • Anonymous

The third Zethino question is misleading. "Most things fear him, actually." will get you a positive response from Astarion but it's the wrong answer in the quiz. Getting an answer wrong will cause the ending of the scene to turn negative. Astarion will get annoyed that it's the wrong answer and walk off. "Breaking a nail." is the only correct answer if you want a full positive romance ending with the quiz where he is happy with you.

Don't make the same mistake I did in one of my playthroughs because that part is incorrect.

                                                                                          • Anonymous

"Take Spaw's side and kill Glut."

So, in my play though, after Glut goes though his spiel about how Spaw didn't help when he asked for it, you can choose to side with Glut or say 'I don't want to be part of this." First I picked Glut, and Astarion approved. Then I decided against it, went back to my previous save, and chose Spaw's side. Astarion still approved. So he's going to approve either way.

                                                                                            • Anonymous

                                                                                              • Anonymous

                                                                                                • Anonymous

I had started a Dark Urge run, but I think the vamp is going to be my run to the end.

At least I don't have to juggle his approval with the parties when I play as him

Astarion wants you to talk to him, he wants to be allowed his freedom to choose for himself, and he doesn't like playing the hero. I usually pair him with Lae'zel and Shadowheart. If you want to do the hero responses, leave him in camp.

                                                                                                      • Anonymous

You either bend over backwards pissing everyone else off just so you can get a tiny amount of approval from him, or you piss him off by doing anything else.

It's really tempting to just replace him in the party line-up for someone who isn't such a ****ing nightmare to please. It's such a shame too, because I like him as a character but I also prefer to play the good or neutral guy and it just doesn't mesh with him.

                                                                                                        • Anonymous

                                                                                                          • Anonymous

I went through all the trouble of doing this, a serious pain as a paladin, however it only gets approval from Gale, not Astarion. I tried multiple different saves and combinations and every time only Gale approves of rez'ing the husband and handing over the wand. There is no "!" that pops over Astarion's head afterwards either, neither does he have a comment about it in camp.

Whether killing the Hag or sparing her, Astarion doesn't have an approval or extra "!" conversation.

He sorta rushed all the romance stuff in one night, after I let him murder someone. And they always say romance is dead, lol. And after the do, he talked about tieflings, which were not present...it was just a random night in the camp. No Tiefling-party happened, ever, so far. Makes very little sense, but I got to do the vampire, so I'm good.

Well, look at that long line up of "Chaos is the best alignment!" people over there. Not only is he hard to please, he's just generally, all around an arse. Can't be nice, can't be mean, can't do anything consistent. Want to RP reliably? Count on him never approving of you. Want to make decisions that are generally beneficial to the party? Count on him never approving of you. This guy is a troll. Worse than Lae'zel, by twenty landslides and three tsunami's. Lae'zel at least has a reliable metric on which you can act. Nevermind the haughty attempted "suave" arrogance. I will, never, understand why people simp for this fool.
