Steal a Githyanki Egg Objectives
Search the Githyanki Crèche for an egg.
- Lady Esther has asked that we steal an egg from the githyanki. The Society of Brilliance want to incubate it, raise it, and soothe its so-called violent nature.
Steal a Githyanki Egg Walkthrough
- Head to the Rosymorn Monastery Trail and then move along the main path onto a fork to activate the Trielta Crags Waypoint. Head northeast from here when the path splits. Keep going and then turn right at (X: -39, Y: -126) to find Lady Esther. If you speak to her she'll talk about how she was trying to buy an egg off of the Githyankis at the Creche. If you ask her why she wants to get a Githyanki egg, she'll explain that the Society of Brilliance wants to hatch one for their own and raise them to see if they'll still be as violent. She'll eventually ask you to get her an egg in exchange for compensation which will begin the Quest. If you talk to her again you can view her wares and buy them from her if you want.
- Giving her the egg causes all lodge members to die (killed by newborn Githyanki) in ACT 3. Blocking you from quest Retrieve Omeluum. (Needs confirmation)
- You can meet Ptaris (The grown-up githyanki) in The Lodge - Basement Docks. Fail to convince him that the Ptarian code was wrong causes a fight. Ptaris drop Unflinching Protector Amulet.
- You can also give her the Owlbear egg if you pass the checks.
- If you do not give the egg, you get the chance to give the egg to another lodge member in Lower City, Baldur's Gate.

*SPOILERS*
this quest seems to have about 10 diff outcomes and none of them are a "happy ending".
if you give her the egg now or hand deliver it to the duergar in the society of brilliance in act 3, they will have groomed and experimented heavily on him with magic in accidentally causing the newborn gith to become very powerful and murdered everyone there, including a questgiver to save omeluum (omeluum presumably stays in the underdark. The quest for Rescuing omeluum is a very cool quest but theres no great quest reward item for specifically rescuing omeluum). When you get there You have the option to either convince the tortured gith child taht hes not evil or fight him and theres a boss fight and you get a very nice tank amulet from his body. alternatively, if you still have the egg when you free orpheus, he will scold you for stealing an egg and imply that the egg is dead now. alternatively, You can give lady esther an owlbear egg instead and you have the option to tell her its an owlbear egg or not. Telling her its an owlbear egg is the same as not giving her the egg at all, otherwise giving her the egg and decieving her leads to the owlbear actually hatching in the society of brilliance and murdering everyone there. a similar outcome but without getting to interact with the gith child when you get there.
sorry if some of this is slightly wrong or not the full explanation. ive only explored the option to give her the gith egg in the my first playthrough, and was looking around trying to decide what to do for my 2nd playthrough and decided to write a bunch here.

Has anyone found out what happens if you give Lady Esther the egg but then you steal it back from her?
I gave lady Esther an owlbear egg, but in act 3 everyone was alive in the lodge, Esther was missing, and a dwarf inside said that she failed to procure the egg, without mentioning anything else. He did offer to buy the githyanki egg from me for 1k gold, but that also doesn't do anything interesting - Halsin and Lae'Zel get disapproval, you get 1k gold, but after resting a few times nothing happens, and they stay alive. Not sure where the rumor about hatching the owlbear egg came from, but there aren't any videos on youtube with the owlbear in the lodge either.
Can this egg hatch on it's own if you keep it?
Or will it never hatch and just remains an egg in your inventory?
Patch #2, September 4th 2023
If you give Lady Esther the Owlbear egg and get her in on the plan to deceive the Society of Brilliance, she will remain at her initial camp site as a merchant.

I was a dragonborn, so I told her she can't go taking people's children and she went hostile and I got some cool monk stuff .

Apparently only Lae'zel can safely pocket the egg. Everyone else only has option to crush it, even if permittion was obtained

I got permission to take egg freely even got acid immune boots, but there is no freaking option to take the egg, all I have is crush it beneath the feet or leave it alone

The Society of Brilliance wanted to see if a Githyanki still has a violent nature if raised outside of their culture. The Githyanki newborn slaughtered them anyway. What did Larian mean by this?

Thanks for giving answers to the wonderings of the community.
This merchant won't be getting my eggs, and i'll exhaust her for money until act 3 ^^, with the lodge alive!

There is currently a bug with Githyanki Egg and picking it up as of the moment of this post. When you speak with the Egg Keeper/Guardian/Hatcher/Nurse, and you successfully persuade him to take the egg, any and all of your CURRENT party will be unable to pick the egg up. This MAY resolve upon reloading a Quick Save, or a Manual Save, but the results are hit and miss. A work around is to go to camp, and bring someone ELSE that was NOT in your party, and pick the egg up. I was able to replicate this more than a dozen times, and the work arounds were few and far between. Additionally, given that the Egg Keeper/Guardian/Hatcher/Nurse does not have too much further dialogue after he tells you "Yup, go take it." regardless of options chosen, you can alternatively, move the egg in the world by dragging it, and then picking it up. I do NOT recommend using the SHOVE action. Doing so will make the nearby Gith hostile. Not temporarily. Hostile.

Confirmed: Giving the lady EITHER Egg results in the same outcome, with very SLIGHT differences. The Society of Brilliance, is not so Brilliant... Githyanki kid wakes up after being a test subject, slaughters everyone. Owlbear Cub wakes up... after being a test subject... and surprise... the innately feral, young beast, to everyones shock and awe... slaughters everyone. You want a good outcome? There are only two. Outright tell her to bugger off, OR, sell her AN egg, and then... permanently borrow them back. This quest, and its long term consequences are the very epitome of "Just because you CAN, does NOT mean you SHOULD."

I didn't accept the quest the first time I talker to her and now I don't have the quest and she won't give it to me.
(She still asks about whether I gave it some thought but there's no option to accept it)

I guess if you steal the githyanki egg and give it to her, laz'ael will give you hell.

You can convince her to take the owlbear egg if you haven't already used it for something
THE BEST ENDING for this is give the Gith egg to Lady Esther to mark the quest as complete and steal it back, and then give the egg to Lae'Zel. At the end of game if you let Lae'Zel come along with Orpheus to slay Vlakith and the next time you meet Lae'Zel she will mention that she adopted and nurture the gith and also she gave it a name and trained him along by her side.
