If you have the first disk in your inventory, you get the option to show it to Varrl and he'll give you the second disk in exchange.

If you spare Varrl in the training room, you MUST acquire the second disk from him BEFORE interacting with the Zaith'isk, otherwise the entire creche becomes hostile and Varrle will disappear permanently. Love being artificially locked out of a quest because I didn't find any of the discs until 50+ hours later

"Attempting this will end the game after your protection is removed, and you become a mind flayer. "
This is misleading. Your protection is only removed if you make some stupid decisions at the beginning of Act 3. While it's true that you can't go back to the Act 1 locations, framing the situation like this is just misinformation.

This quest is bugged a little for me. I got the third and final disc from Balthazar's room but when I tried to read it nothing happens. It said I'm starting a conversation, game stuttered a little and nothing happened. The first two discs were fine.
But... I transferred it to a companions inventory and let them interact with it instead and it worked properly.

Does anyone know where Varrl goes if you persuade the trainer to let him leave + kill all the gith?
- Anonymous
You can go and find his corpse later if you want to complete the quest, its in the same training room the fight happens, just off to the side by the curtains
You can also get the book and info from the gith trainee in the creche if you go pacifist style and persuade the drill sergeant to let him off the hook, if you prefer to avoid the duel dex check. Used a githtanki male disguise to interact with both.

Can't find Youth Varrl after I saved him and then later killed the Gith area off. Can't find his body among the dead. Any ideas?

Part 2 is owned by Youth Varrl in the gith creche inside the monastery, you can persuade him into giving it to you (or loot it from his body after killing him)

part 1 found in arcane tower in a chest - underdark
Tir'su chiffre (for decypher) - arcane tower on a desk - underdark

I picked it up from an item called, Orpheus, Prince of the Comet, Part One: Betrayal. In the Arcane Tower, Underdark.
Been holding on to so many disks for forever, came here to learn details; seems the last one is in Moonrise towers.
As a side note, if/when you clear out the training room, Varrl will say you're "no better than them".
You'll find notes where he get branded a traitor and he's been to the infirmary 47 times or so.
There's a more direct conclusion to the area where everyone in the Créche will perish.
To be honest if Varrl dies, I don't think it's the end of the world. He spoke of justice but did not understand what it was. Don't think him surviving will make any influence, sadly
