Stop the Presses is a Quest in Baldur's Gate 3. Stop the Presses can be acquired during Act 3. Completing Quests allows players to learn more about the world and characters in Baldur's Gate 3, as well as earning more loot and experience to become more powerful.
Stop the Presses Objectives
- Talk to the editor of the Baldur's Mouth Gazette.
- Stop the Baldur's Mouth Gazette printing slander.
- Print a puff piece in the next broadsheet.
- Check the next edition of the Baldur's Mouth Gazette.
Stop the Presses Walkthrough
- Speak to Estra Stir (south of the Basilisk Gate in the Lower City), you learn that the party is the subject of the Baldur's Mouth Gazette's next issue - the juiciest one to date.
- This is a time-sensitive quest, you need to complete it before long rest or your reputation is tarnished.
- To stop the press, you need to sneak into the basement of Baldur's Mouth. Either use Misty Step, Fly or Dimensional Door to reach the door or elevator. Or persuade/intimidate guards to let you pass.
(To avoid being caught, you can jump onto the roof of Baldur's Mouth, break the barricade and jump to the elevator.) - There are two steal watchers patrolling the basement. Hide your character and don't make any noise (like looting or stealing) near the steel watch to avoid getting caught. You can use turn-based mode to move your characters precisely.
(Sneak pass the Steel Watchers in turn-based mode. Invisibility spell can also help.) - Take the press template called Cutest Cat You've Ever Seen or "Make Big Money By Trading With Adventures" In the same room in the wicker basket. The latter one is about your good deeds and states that will give you a positive reputation and help with trading.
- Other positive articles includes:
- Make Big Money by Trading with Adventurers (in a basket near X:-1029, Y:1058)
- Adventurers, Our Best Hope for the City (in a basket near X:-1029, Y:1013)
- Celebrate the Brave Heroes Who Slew General Ketheric (in a basket behind Ettvard)
- Other neutral articles are Hear the Finest Shanties at the Blushing Mermaid (X:43, Y:-60) and Graverobbers Spree (X:58, Y:-42).
- If you freed Dolly Dolly Dolly from the Moonlantern in Act 2, the press recognizes the party and offers to help. Otherwise, you need to persuad it.
- Insert the "Make Big Money By Trading With Adventures" or "Cutest Cat You've Ever Seen" into the printing press to protect your reputation.
- As of patch 3, killing Ettvard also stops the negative articles being published.

I don't think this is updated for Ettvard's death, I killed him and the kid who sold me the paper still acted like I was on the front page for doing something terrible, and the headline was all about a wine festival.

All you have to do to get in is to get to the roof, use fly from your illithid abilities or have a good jumper do it from the rear of the building. On the roof over the area where the elevator is, there is a pile of planks, damage these to make a hole.
Once you do this, jump down into the elevator, for this part you will need invis or REAL good stealth. Hit the switch to go down.
Make it passed the watchers in the hallway again by invis. You will need some very good stealth here again if you dont have invis.
In the printing press room, talk to the press by clicking on it, then get the better print from the wicker basket behind it. Talk to the press again to change the printing.
Leave the way you came.

this quest is stupid, i refuse to leave, get attacked and kill all, and game doesent react on this mass murder properly.

Stories and general locations: Wastebaskets first floor with the Editor: Graverobbers Spree - Neutral, Hear the Finest Shanties at the Blushing Mermaids - Neutral, Celebrate the Brave Heroes who slew General Ketheric Thorm - Good -- Basement: Cutest Cat you've ever seen: Neutral, Make Big Money by trading with Adventurers: Good, A Public Danger: Bad, Curse-breakers, or Curse-makers?: Bad, Adventurers, Our best Hope for the City: Good, Wolves in Sheeps' Clothing: Bad - Even if you outright tell him that you changed the story, he'll still go on printing, which is hilarious, as after the fact he accuses you, but isn't certain. Knocking him out does nothing, Disguise Self, Seeming, any spell effects are automatically seen through, and he boots you out after your second conversation. If you kill Ghortash, your story will be printed, but he'll go through the dialogue of saying you are old news. The overall outcome of Good, Neutral or Bad stories printed are the exact same in terms of city response. NPC's will see an approval boost, or drop, or no change, which is the ultimate effect of the quest, which theoretically lowers/raises prices at shops, or even outright requiring you to bribe certain NPC's if their approval dropped low enough to even converse. -- Theoretically speaking. Interesting quest. Execution? Falls a bit flat depending on how you go about it. If you kill Ghortash right away, he'll skip to his locked in dialogue, things get a little weird. The precise gains/losses for Approval for NPC's is something I cannot and honestly, don't care to track. If someone else can get the specifics, that would be wonderful.

Swapped the print, but the next day everyone just tells that my article has not gone into printing and the quest says that the Baldurs Gate Mouth wont be mentioning us at all now.
If that is not what should be happening, I think there might be some extra modifiers on what happens because I also looted basically everything including the vages from the basement.

Ettvard will still recognize you immediately if you are disguised after throwing you out once. Quite disappointing, I though I had found some use for that Seeming spell...

I only see the cutest cat one and like several others ones that talk **** about my character , no clue where everyone elses the other ones that improve rep

If you saved Dolly Dolly Dolly (the pixie inside the lantern) in act 2, the press starts speaking with you (it is possessed by another pixie). ANd the press qwill gladly help you asking to insert another article.
Actually i found 2 good articles (there are 2 baskets in the basement. one in the press room and the other one in the cat's article one)
one is about trading with merchants and the other one is about the party adventures.
i dont know which one is best to insert in the press

right now the tablets for the press are bugged & have the hitbox in the wrong location! hit alt to see the item name show up & move your mouse around to see it light up when your mouse hits the invisible hitbox (one was near my feet).....

This quest is not time-sensitive. I was nearly done in act 3 and I've done many long rests and was still able to swich to save rep

Use an invisibility scroll/potion otherwise, the watchers will spot you even outside their view cone....

I picked the story from the basket telling about all my good deeds. It will however ruin my reputation anyway. There is also no way to change the story once added to the press machine.

Previous comment may be true, alternatively it may be due to talking to the editor after switching them out. Regardless, best to only pick up the one that benefits you (the one about how much money you're spending in Baldurs Gate, I believe it's in the 2nd room of the two connect rooms, in a basket.)

Quest is currently bugged as of 12/08/2023. You should only interract with the story you want to be changed to and ignore all of the others (Pickup is the only one I can confirm bugs the quest)
A nice little detail is that if you successfully substituted the 'Adventurers Best Hope For City' (probably works works for other positive articles but haven't tried it) the next day you can buy a copy of the paper from Silfy, one of the kids from the Grove, who tells you that there is an article about you in the current edition. You can find him by the Heapside waypoint.
