Investigate the Suspicious Toys Objectives

Report to the Flaming Fist man in charge of donations.
  • There is a Flaming Fist manip in charge of donations.
Search the Requisitioned Barn for dangerous toys.
  • We persuaded Manip Nestor to let us search the donations within the Requisitioned Barn.
Find and confront the toymaker Arfur Gregorio
  • We found the donated toys mentioned in the blackmail against Arfur - he put explosives inside of them. We should see what he has to say for himself.
Investigate Felogyr's Fireworks
  • We interrogated Arfur, and he confessed to donating the exploding toys. He claimed he was getting instructions and supplies from Felogyr's Fireworks in the Lower City. We should investigate.
  • We used the passphrase for Felogyr's Fireworks to get to the next floor. We'll need another way into the uppermost floor, however.
Quest Complete
  • We defeated the Banites in Felogyr's Fireworks and stopped them distributing smokepowder explosives across the city.

You can then start looting Arfur's mansion. In one room, discover a hatch that leads to the basement. There, you'll find a chest with a letter that initiates the quest "Investigate the Suspicious Toys."

Proceed south until you find "X:60 Y:-107." Speak with NPC Manip Nestor, and the quest "Investigating the Toys" will advance. Nestor will ask if you'd like to donate. Reply with:

  1. Donations for what?
  2. It looks like you have plenty already.
  3. I'll take a donation, please.
  4. I'll make a donation - what do you need?
  5. I'm actually here to trade.

Opt for the first option, and Nestor will sarcastically mention it's for the refugees. Reply with:

  1. [Persuasion] I need to get into the barn right now. Something dangerous might be among the donations.
  2. Donate some gold. (500)
  3. I want to donate some supplies.
  4. [Persuasion] I'd like to take the donation into the barn myself.
  5. Maybe people would donate more if you weren't so rude.

Choose the first option, and Nestor will allow your entrance. As you enter the Requisitioned barn behind Nestor, look to the left for a crate of toys. This discovery updates the "Investigate the Suspicious Toys" quest in your journal. Nestor expresses gratitude for identifying the issue and urges you to find the person who tampered with the toys. Now, your task is to locate Arfur and confront him.

I sure wish Avery Sonshal would stop shooting fireballs through three stories of building! Seems a little weird how he can stand on the ground floor and hit my characters on the top floor.

If you read some letters in the fireworks factory, it becomes clear that the whole putting explosives in the toys idea was Arfur's and the Banites actually thought it was too unsubtle and ordered not to sell anything more to the bastard. Unfortunately he conveniently skipped town when I came back to confront him about this.

How is throwing a person out of his house, ignoring his approach to the situation (which was not great), the moral solution?
There was even somethin about him going to find a room in an inn..
It is his house. Yeah, it is big and he probably has financial means to help them (and doesn't, so he is not a very good person, mind you), but it is still his house. If someone you don't know came into your house a wanted to live in one of its rooms, it would be weird as hell. Give them money, if they need help? Sure. But having people you don't know live in your house uninvited? That is strange and frankly dangerous, as well.
Taking into account the situation alone, not his basement and the other stuff. It just seems strange that the "moral" solution seems to be kicking him out and not figuring a middle ground, where he pays them a hotel or something.

There's way more too this quest, after you confront Arfur at Shars Caress you need to go into the lower city and find who is making the exploding items. It's at the fireworks manufacturer. The only way to complete the quest is to kill everyone inside the shop. I didn't do this til much later and had to fight not only everyone in the shop, but local flaming fist as well. It was a tough fight.

Heads up: if you accidentally, or otherwise, murder Arfur Gregorio you can still continue with the quest line.

I used the "Speak with Dead" spell on his corpse after investigating the donation area, and by doing so gathered the necessary intel to proceed.

Love this game for its ability to solve problems in unique ways like this... And have to say, I rather enjoyed the opportunity to converse with Arfur from beyond the grave after he sicced his goons on our party.
