Mourning Frost is one of the Two-Handed Melee Weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. In BG3, each type of weapon has different ranges, damages, and other features (Finesse, Versatile, Dippable, etc.) Characters need to master certain Proficiency in order to gain a bonus using this type of weapon, and sometimes gain special Actions while holding it.

This makes element monk really good. Focus on frost Ki spells and when you get encrusted you can use your flurry with the frost gloves to cause the bonus damage to deal more.

Bro I had all of these items for ages wonder what they were for and never used them lol

Not that this weapon is hard to get, but that UUID is incorrect.

One of the deep gnome prisoners in Moonlight Tower, Nimble, after being saved, dropped it when killed in Last Light Inn.

I think this is the best weapon for the shadow monk in the entire game, which you can get in the first act. It deals one more damage than all other versable weapons with an elemental bonus, except NYRULNA (but it glows in the dark and breaks shadow step and the whole point of the class). And it gives a ray of frost, which is convenient for extinguishing the light. It's a lot of fun to go on stealth missions alone, turn off the lights and endlessly jump around the entire location with a shadow step.

key item against grym boss! :D actally it is... you get by the dark elves so just use ray of fros cantrip and the grym boss become VULNERABLE AGAINST ICE!!! it's a huge advantage!!!

This + Markoheshkir (using dual wield feat) + potent robes + coldbrim hat + winter’s clutches + snowburst ring on a cold sorcerer with haste is kinda nutty
Forgot to turn off Repelling Blast, Filro is now fertilizing the sussur tree.
I pushed Filro to the chasm. RIP ice crystal. I just searched this wiki after 50+ quicksaves

So I am a little confused about this weapon now that we are on full release. So the "Heart of Ice" passive says you get +1 cold damage but also that a frostbitten character receives +1 cold damage per stack of frostbite. But is the ""Frostbite" status still a thing?
I know they have tweaked this item since its initial release in EA, it being no longer a legendary item and now it has the "Insidious Cold" passive but Is "Frostbite" just no longer in the game and they just haven't changed the description for the "Heart of Ice" passive? I see older videos of people testing out this staff in EA and the staff applying "Frostbite" when you hit with spells/cantrips, so seems to have existed at one point, so am I just missing something? How does one apply "Frostbite" in full release?

"Characters need to master certain Proficiency before using a weapon, and sometimes gain a special Actions while holding it" - This is false. You can use any weapon at any time whether or not you have the corresponding proficiency - however, you won't get a proficiency bonus while wielding it or gain access to the activated abilities of the weapon unless you do.

The 'Insidious Cold' condition is what makes this staff worth using because it gives the target vulnerability to cold damage (2x cold damage), however at full release hotfix 3, the spell dc to apply 'insidious cold' does not receive any bonuses from your spell casting attribute nor from any other bonuses. It remains at a base value of 12, which most enemies can overcome with ease. This greatly limits this staff's usefulness at mid to high levels for a cold-focused arcane caster. I hope this is an oversight and not by design.

I threw Filro into a chasm so guess I won't be getting this haha

Does anyone know if the "Heart of Ice" passive applies too the cold damage done on melee swings?

This now has "Insidious Cold" Dealing Cold damage with a spell possibly inflicts Chilled (Vuln to Cold, Resistant to Fire) upon the target. It grants the user Ray of Frost. It also has a +1 enchant and is Very Rare.

This seems bugged on release - trying to combine the 3 pieces says "Ingredients Missing" and consumes 2 of the pieces, which deletes them from your inventory...
