Sword of Life Stealing is one of the Shortswords Weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. Sword of Life Stealing is a very rare shortsword sold by Dammon at the Last Light Inn in Act 2. In BG3, each type of weapon has different ranges, damages, and other features (Finesse, Versatile, Dippable, etc.). Characters need to master certain Proficiency before using a weapon, and sometimes gain special Actions while holding it.
Folded into the steel of this menacing weapon is an alloy of enchanted metal. It waits like a leech in thick swamp water, awaiting a victim to taste, awaiting a chance to restore your heartiness and inflict suffering on your foes.

People on Reddit say (as of Jan 2024) the weapon works as intended (but only procs when attacking with the weapon itself, for those wondering about the wording)

11.10.2023 Still doesn't work, it worked for 1 combat and then didn't proc again.
Such a good weapon for Act 2, such as shame.

Sadly this buggy sword doesn't make necrotic dmg if critical hit succeed, it just hit normal physical dmg + more physical dmg if u crit and besides you dont get any temp hp.

on 2023 08 19 : still bugged
Notice that you will proc the effect on construct or undead ( the real effect should be on anything but those two )

Is the effect on weapon hit only? It just says on critical hit, so spells/cantrips should work too right?

I haven't managed to see the sword's effect on any of the numerous crits I've landed. I even have a once per long rest auto-crit power

Funny it is literally called "Not Found" in my save. Wish I could attach a screenshot.
