Staff of Arcane Blessing is one of the Two-Handed Melee Weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. In BG3, each type of weapon has different ranges, damages, and other features (Finesse, Versatile, Dippable, etc).  Characters need to master certain Proficiency before using a weapon, and sometimes gain a special Actions while holding it.

Though dust has settled into every nook and cranny of this staff, it still emanates a soothing aura. Its previous owner cast it aside - forgotten because there was nobody to bless.

BG3 Staff of Arcane Blessing Information

BG3 Staff of Arcane Blessing Location & Where to Find

  • Location: Arcane Tower - At the top of the tower a boss drops a ring or can be asked to place the ring on a nearby table with the appropriate dialogue options. Equipping the ring reveals an additional elevator button letting you ascend from the top of the tower. The elevator starts up once you've put a sussur flower into the generator. The description of Mystra's Blessing is incorrect, it instead only adds an additional 1d4 to spell attack rolls, granting 2d4 in total. It does not increase saving throws or weapon attack rolls by an additional 1d4.

      • Anonymous

The description is misleading. It should only say it increases spell attack rolls by an additional 1d4. Nothing else.

        • Anonymous

another bug i had with this, is that mystras blessing is applied when using a t1 or t2 spellslot to cast bless, casting with t3 4 or 5 though for more targets only gives ALL the normal bless and not mistras blessing.

          • Anonymous

Patch#3 hotfix#8. The item description still does not match the effect.

The effect applied is still only a bonus 1D4 to SPELL attack rolls. (Bringing the total bonus of Bless to 2D4).

Weapon rolls and saving throws remain Unchanged and is just the regular Bless (1d4).

The below comment is incorrect, the effect is applied to both Bless cast from the staff, or cast from your list of spells. However it indeed seems to not apply to other sources (like whispering ring).
This is likely because those sources have a different name for their 'bless' effects, even though it is still Bless (albeit with different duration), and the Buffs bar names it bless.

Example whispering ring applies "bless" for only 2 turns, and on the description it's named "blessed Mercy". This means it's likely a different instance of the buff altogether, and likely why the game code will not trigger this staff's effect on it.

I was running some tests with this thing, now that we are no Patch 3.

The description remains unchanged, and apparently now the bonus 1d4 to spell attack rolls is only applied when casting the Bless spell from the staff itself. I tried casting from many different sources and none applied the Mystra's Blessing effect.

It's crazy that they fixed the way the bonus is applied but didn't change the bullshit description. The first time I found this item and read the effect I wondered why it was not Legendary lol.

They really need to fix the description on this. "Mystra's blessing: Bless adds an additional 1d4 to saving throws and weapon attack rolls, and an additional 2d4 to spell attack rolls" Nowhere does it say it actually replaces the regular bless effect, implying that this is on top of it.

                • Anonymous

It only applies to spell attack rolls, it doesn’t double the power of bless at all. So it’s great for guiding bolt, scorching ray, eldritch blast and any spell attack but it DOES NOT boost regular attacks or saves at all. It only has the same effect as base bless on those.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it in the comments, but this staff (like all staffs) can benefit from the Great Weapon Master feat so long as you keep your off hand slot empty. I took GWM on Shadowheart, and she hits like a truck with this staff while also being able to cast the amped-up Bless bonus!

                    • You can get to that secret floor before the boss. At the bottom where you fix the power generator, there is a set of stairs behind a wall (right next to the door you entered from outside). Using the Gaseous state spell, you can fly over the wall, and enter the sub basement room and loot the staff of arcane along with other books and items.

Mystras blessing is a seperate buff that gets added to the bless spelll while wearing the staff. It does not get removed when concentration on bless is broken. Upcasting bless to level 3 does not grant mystras blessing.

                        • Anonymous

on release I ran some tests: mystra's blessing doesn't work any different than any other bless BUT with an extra 1d4 ONLY to spell attacks.

so the only 2d4 is applied to spell attacks not the usual rest. it WORKS with any bless, not just the one bestowed by the staff

                          • Anonymous

Pretty much the most broken item in the game if you're packing a sorlock. Or anyone, really. This should be in every party

                            • Anonymous

this weapon is bugged, sometimes it gives the buff others not. sometimes you end up with only a +1 from bless on attack rolls, which should be impossible cause normal bless gives 1d4, and mystras blessing another 1d4 on attack rolls. the lowest bonus from bless should have been +2

                              • Anonymous

As of version 4.1.1 the buff does not work if you upscale Bless. It does work with Bless level 1 from non-item uses of Bless.

Should be noted that all casts of bless with this staff equipped bestows Mystra’s blessing. Now that staffs are versatile there’s very little reason to not equip this on Shadowheart/a cleric.

                                    The description is very misleading.
It works exactly like bless, the ONLY thing that changes is that the bonus to spell attack rolls is doubled (2d4 instead of 1d4)

Still a strong contender for the strongest item in the game, together with the sword of justice and the absolutes warboard

                                    • Larian: Uh oh, enchanting a staff with +1 gives to much damage! Let's instead break our own game with another stupidly overpowered item that can potentially give us +4 on all saves and +8 on spell attacks.
