Shadow Lantern is one of the Club Weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. In BG3, each type of weapon has different ranges, damages, and other features (Finesse, Versatile, Dippable, etc.). Characters need to master certain Proficiency before using a weapon, and sometimes gain special Actions while holding it.

I was hoping it would create shadows around the bearer but you have to EQUIP IT to use/keep it and it summons one of those shadows (NOT A WRAITH) that you'll basically oneshot with any character.
I can't believe this is a lvl6 spell and it must not be intended. If you have access to lvl6 spells (or lvl 5 or eve 4 for that matter) then you'll MOST PROBABLY have no use for this.
Not only that but it's not a ritual; you can only use this ONCE each long rest. Just wow

The lamp allows you to summon a 'Shadow' with the same stats as the ones fought around the other areas (24 health, 13 AC). It does not summon the stronger 'Wraith' type. It can be used once per long rest. Shadow has Sunlight Weakness, Shadowblend (can become invisible when obscured), and Ethereal. It uses Strength Drain just like enemy shadows (reduce strength by 3 and target dies if it reaches 0).
If you destroy the altar with Gale then you get Mystra's Benevolence which grants Gale advantage on concentration checks. This is a permanent buff.
Everyone else needs to pass an Arcana check of 30 to destroy it. If you fail it, you are locked out of both the buff and the lantern. None of my characters could pass it so I have no idea if they get Mystra's Benevolence.

If it gave an aura of darkness, it be much more appealing, could use it to sneak around. But it just makes a summon.
The lantern's summoning ability refreshes if you fasttravel between regions of act 1 and act 2! No need to long rest.
