i love when i throw this and it doesn't return feels great.

I noticed it occasionally deals damage two times per throw; the initial hit and then crushing damage.

Keep in mind that you throw in an arc and it returns in a straight line, it can and will remain in the target if it does not have a clear line to return

Okay, so it's annoying that this thing replaces your equipped weapon/shield when it returns. But, this is an excellent early weapon for Karlach or a barbarian Tav with enraged throw, who can get a ton of utility out of it as a primary weapon. With 1d10 damage and +1 enchantment it's stronger than a javelin, you get an extra melee or throw attack as a bonus action when you're raging, and you don't have to pick it up to use it again. While there are stronger weapons to use enraged throw with, this thing completely streamlines your melee and ranged damage, which I just think is neat. I love that my Karlach at level 6 can make any combination of 3 melee and ranged attacks with the same weapon and always be threatening with a melee weapon when she's done, unlike classes that might prefer bows for range.

A downside to this weapon is that it replaces whatever is equipped in your character's hands, rather than just returning to your inventory. So unless this is your main weapon, it's effect will be more bothersome than helpful.
Playing honor mode and sometimes it doesn't ****ing return and gets lost in the mess or disappears I have exactly ZERO shame in task managing the game and reloading.
"Just roll with it" is a fine sentiment if the rules are all laid out and will work consistently.
