Sword of Chaos Notes & Tips for BG3

  • Rarity: Very Rare
  • Value: 960
  • Weight: 2.7

This item is perfect for Barbarians who need to sustain damage taken by restoring some of it back. Because it specifies that you are required to hit something, it doesn't specify if it is an enemy or an object, hitting and dealing damage to objects will restore health, attack common items like candles, chests, crates and so on and regain health in the process, if the damage dealt is 0 (happens when you attack a very tough chests/doors) you will not regain health from that hit.

All weapons that have some necrotic damage roll, such as this weapon that has 1d4 necrotic damage, do not receive the 1d10 necrotic damage buff from the Vampire Lord, thus remaining with 1d4.

Great with the Neck Broodmothers Revenge. Coats the weapon with a 1d4 poison whenever you are healed. (its 1d4 not a 1d6, ingame tooltip is wrong)

As far as I can tell, the optimal setup for a max damage/healing build would entail 5 levels in Berserker and 7 levels in Bladelock. With Frenzy, plus 2x Extra Attack you can pull off 4x attacks with your main hand weapon per round.

With the Wound Close amulet, you'd restore 6 HP per hit, up to 24 HP per turn if every attack hit. Add in the Ring of Regeneration, and you could bump the figure up to 28 HP restored per turn.

Really underrated sword. Especially if your character has resistances and extra attacks to outheal damage, and dish out good damage.

Small tip: You can get two Swords of Chaos off of Sarevok's body - however the second one will not have the on-hit heal effect.

After you kill and loot Sarevok he still wont show up with the [Empty] tag next to his name if you hold alt.

If you have a character with high enough strength and enough free space in their inventory(Sarevok weighs 80kg), then pick up his body.
Then open your inventory and click your weapon slot, it'll show all available weapons you have including weapons that are equipped by your teammates. For some reason this also applies to dead bodies in your inventory, showing you any gear that is on them but not available to you as a loot drop. It'll show a second sword of chaos that is marked as equipped, you can drag it from that screen in to your inventory for a free second sword.

He also has a 20AC chest that you can take off his body using the same trick.
