Fun class but they really need to fix the pathing for the companions, these guys with just randomly get stuck on literally nothing and stop following you....

I wish there was a bit more variety to the summons, even just visually for the sake of personal roleplay. Also I think it's weird that there's no summon that benefits from stealth, I believe leopard/cougar/jaguar would fit perfectly into that role.

Step 1. Cast Find Familiar (Spider) and Ranger's Companion (Spider)
Step 2. Cast Wild Shape (Spider)
Step 3. Web everything
Step 4. Burn to death because there was a single candle that you didn't notice while spamming webs

Would it be silly to go Fighter 1/Ranger 11 Beast Master so I can dual wield hand crossbows and swords? Mostly for flavor and viability combined.

If you could summon/have a a Lion companion I would definitely use this subclass

Summon bear>make bear summon another bear>short rest>summon wolf cuz its cooler and now you have a bear and a Sif.

you are most likely using the spell find familiar instead of summoning a ranger companion

Just started playing the game as a half elf beastmaster but instead of the typical animal summos I have a house cat instead of the wolf... does anyone know why? Am I just stupid and chose the wrong option or something?

Pairing summoning ability on a high initiative character has always been a strong strategy in Larian games, in my experience. A max dexterity ranger should move first in almost every fight. Summon a tanky animal in a way to draw fire. Gives you time to size up and then beat any random curveball Larian throws at you.

Best multiclass on this is 1 single level of wizard and either using helmet to fix intellect or leave it high from the start, a loss of ASI is kind of inconsequential (unless you are trying to be a melee beast master which is kind of subpar) since all you need is a +2ASI & sharpshooter dual hand crossbows.
What this level of wizard gives you is 4th level spell progression ( or just 3 but even then...), you scribe in the spells you want from the wizard list like haste or fireballz... which are superior to the ranger ones and they will scale off of intellect not wisdom. I wouldn't take this earlier than level 6 but as early as possible since having spells like shield to be tanky or mage armor for your companion/familiar, misty step, etc (enlarge is bugged , only visual on pet oh the sadness)
Also to mention the fact that favoured enemy traits from ranger are all intellect based skills so synergy oozing all over.

If there is a beast close to an enemy would sneak attack work?

It's unfortunate that Beast Master doesn't get a similar treatment as the Druid Wild Shapes whenever you level up. Would be pretty cool to have a Displacer Beast or Owlbear as a companion.

Some of the beasts such as the wolf often gets stuck in the enviroment, and can't move until you manually control them and use jump to get them free. It's really frustrating.

Pets get a significant HP boost at levels 5/8/11. They also get some new abilities and features as they level, including a powerful "ultimate" move at level 11 (in addition to their second attack). You can resummon your companion once per short rest.
Also just a funny thought, but I think if you respecced your entire party into Beast Masters with the Natural Explorer option that lets you summon a familiar, you could absolutely mob encounters with 12 friendlies. If all 4 members had level 11 ravens, which can summon two lesser ravens as an ultimate, you could potentially flood the battlefield with 20 friendly creatures (most of which inflict blindness).

Can beast master be mutliclassed effectively? I'm wondering if I can get away with 5 levels in ranger for the extra attack and the pet bonus, it doesn't say anything about the pet scaling beyond the bonuses it gets at levels 5/7/11.

Why can we never get a panther? Does Drizzt have a monopoly until the end of time.

The tooltip says the bear can "endure heavy attacks" but has dramatically less health than the spider, and the spider also boasts a 3 armor rating class over the bear, has a +3 damage on rolls, and can web and possibly poison.
Bear has a taunt, but that's basically useless with it's hp pool being 19 at level 3, whereas the spider has 32 and can entangle w/ web.
I'm assuming these stat lines were accidentally swapped with one another, or they will improve the bear eventually, but as it stands there's almost no reason to use one other than RPing.

i got a bug that every time i summon my pet i get into a fight with it, but i can control it
and i don't know how to fix it... that's kinda harsh since it does make the beast hunter useless and it happened after i killed the goblins at the entrance of the goblin camp

Note: Don't pick Beast Tamer at level 1 if you intend to eventually become a Beast Master, you can't have both a beast companion and a familiar out at the same time as of when I am writing this so it is a bit of a waste.

I know this sub has the focus on the beast comp, but it would be cool for the character to receive some class buff.
