Thorn Blade is one of the Martial Melee Weapons in Baldur's Gate 3. In BG3, each type of weapon has different ranges, damages, and other features (Finesse, Versatile, Dippable, etc). Characters need to master certain Proficiency before using a weapon, and sometimes gain a special Actions while holding it.
This Blade is sharp and slender as a serpent's fang - and just as likely to inflict a hideous sting.

Is the conditional 1d4 poison damage while concentrating applied to say a monks unarmed attacks? Or just this weapons attacks?

Great synergy with these and broodmothers revenge, poisoners gloves, and derivation cloak. Cast hunters mark, every attack does +2d4 poison, +1d6 hunters mark, has chance to poison which heals you and gives another 1d4 poison for a total of 2d6+3d4+dex. Add in the boots of aid and comfort and whispering promise ring, and get bless and temp hp nearly every turn. Even more fun when adding in hunter ranger extra stuff like AOE attacks and another 1d8 per attack

One of the best weapons for dexterity based dual wield... you can get more than one copy of this sword. Their bonuses do stack, so each attack can get 2-8 extra dmg.
The conditional +1d4 poison damage isn't bad, but other weapons that are dippable can easily get +1d4 fire damage, so Thorn Blade is really only good for the free Ensnaring Strike (Melee version only).
However, it can only be used once per Long Rest though, so not something you can rely on each fight.
I don't understand why he won't sell this in Act 3
