When pickpocketing, some NPCs will not attack one unless the perpetrator's attitude reaches -20. Alternatively, some NPCs would rather send the perpetrator to jail than attack them. This method helps avoid save-scumming.
Considering the static number of -5 attitude given when a character is caught pickpocketing, it's possible to donate gold, or valuable items, to negate any loss in attitude towards the perpetrator. One can then "take back" the donated gold, resulting in a net gain in gold.

So if anyone like me is confused by the number in the pickpocket UI, it's what you have to roll on the die *before* your modifiers are applied to get the item.

Pretty garbage when it comes to trying to loot something valuable. You can get enough to pickpocket keys reliably, but if there's something you want off a vendor, good luck succeeding without some save-scumming. Too bad they didn't carry over the pickpocket mechanic from Divinity OS 2, even if it was a tad overtuned.

can you debuff a target with lets say phalar aluve: shriek, that gives a 1d4 penalty on wisdom saving throws to enemy, and then try to pickpocket them with greater sucess, cause perception falls under wisdom?
How to make the most of pickpocketing:
Guidance and Enhance Ability: Cat's Grace both work on Pickpocket checks.
Barter for expensive items using a bunch of different low-value items (so they don't stack, and are easy to pickpocket), then pickpocket all the items back again afterward. You can keep the same collection of pickpocket-aids and do this over and over.
Or just buy expensive things, then go into the Barter interface and split the vendor's gold stack into a bunch of smaller, easy to pickpocket stacks, then go to town directly on their gold.
