Cutting Words Tips & Notes for BG 3
- Differs from D&D5e in that it can't be used to lower damage taken, but it can be used to lower the Saving Throws of targets. The in-game tooltip has not been updated to reflect this despite the implementation being made in Early Access.
- Bug: Cutting Word does not appear to make use of Improved Bardic Inspiration as it should and is stuck using d6 despite being at a level where you should have access to d8 or d10.
- This can be used on your turn and it also works both for you and your party members when attacked within range.

What is the DC for the saving throw? Does it receive a bonus from your Charisma modifier?

Some focus not being hit and others focus making the hit not matter. In the end i prefer things to die when they try. For those who think bard is op, there is an abjuration wizard, cleric, or even barbarian waiting on the sideline.

Its not bugged on ps5 version, it's working very well
It pop a message telling how much the enemy roll and if you want to apply the debuff
Obviously you got roll 1d6 debuff to effect the enemy
I love this ability, its pretty fun see your character saying something and making the enemy miss, I laugh a lot using this

I'm not convinced this isn't bugged. Today I was attacked over five times and it never asked me if I wanted to use Cutting Words, not on their attack roll nor their damage roll.
I do wonder if -- if they roll high enough -- that it doesn't bother asking, like if 1d6 wouldn't cause them to miss?
And the tooltip still reads it works for damage, but it definitely doesn't lol. As my character died, and it had several opportunities to reduce damage

The bug with scaling alongside improved bardic inspiration appears to be fixed? I saw a roll of 7 today

Can you use this on your turn? For example, when casting Hold Person and the enemy tries to roll a saving throw against it.

does it only work when you are attacked? or teammates as well?

you can activate the "ask" button on the reaction. you will then be asked to use it whenever it would be of use (aka opponent makes his save). you see what he rolled and know if it is worthwhile to use. it also consumes one inspiration point. but a realy strong ability

Would be nice to have an option that can be cast on a target of choice rather than just a reaction. That way you can preemptively debuff an enemy who may be able to do a big attack on a specific party member. This allows for more strategic use

2 questions;
1) I cannot figure out what sets this off
2) because it falls under bardic inspiration does it consume one of your uses every time it procs

Can it still lower Saving Throws in the full game?
That would be extremely strong!
Does someone know if the reaction works on aoe attacks ? For example, if I cast hold person on multiple targets, and one of the enemies or more succeed(s) on saving, does it ask me to cast cutting edge ? Or if I cast the sleep glyph on multiple targets, and 2 of them save will it ask me to cast the reaction ? And will it let me choose the enemy I want to suppress ?
