Sneak Attack (Ranged) Tips & Notes
- Sneak Attack is best used, not as a separate action, but when set to be triggered automatically under your character's Spellbook > Reactions tab. Here you can set conditions for the trigger. This allows you to combine Sneak Attack with Weapon Actions and other types of attacks.
- Some ways to get Advantage so your Sneak Attack can be executed:
- As of Patch #1: You can Sneak Attack with Ranged Spell Attacks requiring an Attack Roll to determine whether you hit, e.g. Fire Bolt or Eldritch Blast. Sneak Attack damage will apply only once and you need to wield a Finesse or Ranged weapon.
- This scales on Rogue levels only and on odd numbers only, not on your total character level. For example, if you multiclass at level 5, only levels 3 and 5 will count and will add 1d6 damage each level, even when you reach character level 12. Level 1 Rogue will not count with the scaling as it is not gained.

Shooting with my bow: 1d6+3 damage
What the tooltip says for my sneak attack (ranged): 1d6+3 +1d6 damage
What I actually get: 1d6 +1d6 damage (no +3)
This game is SO BUGGY.

There is a bug where the Ranged Sneak Attack will not apply automatically if your main-hand melee weapon lacks the finesse property. If it has the Finesse property then the Sneak Attack Die can be stacked with any Ranged Attack Action you take, including any special arrows you wish to use. Without the finesse property the extra damage die will only apply if you specifically take the Sneak Attack Action.

Okay good, I don’t have to always waste a bonus action to hide before using this after getting behind someone.

Unless I am mistaken it isn't working with special ammo types such as acid arrows. However, it should

Does this passively apply to the first hit by the Rogue for the turn or is it only an active ability that replaces the attack action? I know that was a weird thing going on a while back.

Anyone knows if this works with spells/cantrips like f"ire bolt" that are "range attacks"?

(Beta) Currently 11.1.2020 Ranged Sneak attack does not work properly. You will get advantage all or most of the time when an ally is next to an enemy but never when you just have advantage.

Does sneak attack work on thrown weapon attacks from thrown finesse weapons like daggers? I want to try a throwing dagger rogue build, but I keep finding conflicting info on whether or not it works.
