Toggle Non-Lethal Attacks Tips & Notes
- When you engage in combat with any merchant NPC or enemy, try using this. Killing them would only drop designated item drops but if you knock them unconscious, it will allow you to loot their entire inventory, including any items you may have previously sold or traded with them.

I used non lethal on the shadow druid trio today. kOd all three and got quest complete. They are still snoring so I looted them and didn't kill them. Wonder if this will break my game

Okay, this passive is seriously bugged or the oversights just aren't being addressed.
First, throwing damage (which is considered melee in tooltips) is outright killing when the passive is active.
Second, characters are STILL getting flagged as dead when knocked unconscious and I've seen this has been an issue for years.
Third, healing them SOMETIMES helps them recover. Long resting MOST of the time will recover them. This might have something to do with how the characters are flagged such as possible recruitable characters opposed to regular npcs. I haven't been able to use the HELP command to pick them up at all either but I'm not sure if that's even supposed to work.
Finally, I haven't played a paladin myself but I watched someone break their oath by knocking someone out they weren't supposed to. Their oath didn't break until the blow and not at the start of combat. I'm not sure if this character was flagged as dead though like in point two.

Very important for the Auntie Ethel fight if you want her hair

I'm sure the developers have probably already considered this, but it would be really amazing if you could knock an NPC unconscious and then awaken them outside of combat and have the option to perform a persuasion or intimidation check to convince them to stand down. I feel that would provide a way out of murdering someone who didn't like the dialogue option you chose.

Seems like more often than not my non-lethal attacks are killing the target anyway... Is there some invisible overkill mechanic? I'm having to resort to save-scumming just to avoid killing people I want to keep alive.

What's the point? I wanted to knock them out and interrogate them...
You can non-lethal the 'sheep' in auntie's area for extremely easy exp, it'll knock them unconscious gaining full exp. You can then lethal them for free, it won't trigger the others.
