Ranger's Companion Tips & Notes for BG3
- You may wish to dismiss your Ranger Companion before entering a town, as NPCs react inconveniently realistic to them. This can cause NPCs to run around and scream at them, making conversations sometimes difficult.
- The Companions' level is based on your class's level.

How do you remove the helmet off of my summon, I hate how the helmets look on them, ESPECIALLY since I play a druid, the armor throws everything off, since it's only a cosmetic difference and not a stat difference, I should be able to disable it.

Meanwhile I'm running with a summoned Cambion around Baldur's Gate and no one gives a damn

Can the animals carry items?
Like can you give them good berries to use and heal up with?

And here i am still dreaming about having a bear companion as a Ranger and being a bear myself as a Druid without both being absolute **** due to scaling :')

Why make one of them a Raven when there's already a Raven Familiar, and you have perfectly good Eagle models you could've used.
The selection of Animal Companions in general feels pretty meh, especially compared to the wide variety of Wild Shape forms that Druids get.

Are companions' levels based off of class level or total level?

I hate how Animal Companions scale in this game, almost half of the the Level Ups are "dead levels" where your Companion doesn't get ANYTHING, not even HP.

Dexterity focused ranger is going to be a good summoner too. All Larian games seem to have this fact about their combat.
Your max dexterity ranger should almost always get first on initiative. Cast the summon on your first move in a way that will attract attacks or protects your weak characters. This strategy will help you size up any random curveballs Larian throws at you via combat.

If you want a pure ranger then this is easily the best option, all the pets are really good. I think raven is probably the best surprisingly due to mobility, utility, and no save blinding. But they really all have their food points. This doesn’t multi class very well though, if you want to multi maybe go hunter or gloomstalker instead.

How do the stats of the companion increase? For each level in Beast master, character level or how? I am level 4 and my wolf companion is only 11 HP getting deleted on tactician.

Definitely dismiss before entering villages, otherwise important NPCs may flee into their death...

lvl 5 adds additional abilities to the animal companion. Bear gets to drop enemy weapons or prone them, Boar enrage, Wolf lunge attack. Not sure about the spider.

It's an action, but does it cost anything, like a spell slot? Can you do it as much as you like, or only once per short/long rest? Can you do it in combat if your companion goes down? Do you need to use your action/bonus action to command your companion to attack like in 5e?
If this really is an unrestricted action and your companion can act without gobbling up your action economy, then Beast Master might not only be playable in BG3, it might be downright STRONG.

Can you ride your animal companion as a small race character ?
