Investigate the Beach Objectives

Investigate the Beach Walkthrough

  • The Seclude Clove of the beach can be located near the Sacred Pool in the Emerald Grove (X:316 Y:553) When you approach the beach, you'll find an Entranced Child (a Tiefling boy) lured by the song of Harpy.
  • Listen to the song and prepare to break away from it by choosing from a set of dialogues. If you succeed, you'll be able to break loose and help the child Tiefling snap out of the alluring song.
  • During one of our playthroughs, we found that the Bard had a high chance to break through the trance. You'll have the option to sing along with the tune which breaks you from the trance, and eventually, the child. If you succeed, the child will eventually disengage and run far from the scene of the fight.
  • If you see a harpy start to sing, divert your attention to the singing harpy to break its concentration.
  • Defeat the harpies, and talk to the boy, he'll give you the password you need to say to Doni so you can enter the Tiefling's Hideout.

  • Retrace your steps and speak to Doni. The muttering Tiefling can be located back at The Hollow, near the entrance of the Sacred Pool (X:227 Y550)

  • The hatch to Tiefling Hideout is right behind Doni. Head inside and speak to Mol, after the good dead of saving the child, she should have the option of mentioning about a quest of stealing the sacred idol (Steal the Sacred Idol). The choice is yours  if you would like to accept it or not.

Once you grab the contents of the chest behind the rocks, you can continue around the rock, past the chest, jump over the little chasm, climb up the hill and eventually you'll see a nest, you'll need to long jump across to reach it. Inside there's a color spray ring and some other treasure.

To make sure the kid will survive the fight: As much as possible, have your whole party attack the singing harpy right away to stop her singing. That means, your entire party (or at least 3 of you) should be present for the cutscene (otherwise you will be too far away from the singing harpy, which may be good to your survival, but will be really bad to the kid). Your priority is to break the song. Without the charming effect of the song, the kid will run away for safety in a way he should, and the harpies will happily focus on your party members only. Make sure you don't let the kid face the harpies alone. Also, try not to use spells that have a chance to hurt the kid. Overall, this encounter is not hard to you even on Tactician difficulty. But if the kid is dead, you have failed the quest.

Mol won't speak to you if you didn't help that one little s... steal that guy's mother's memory. Lies to the guards if you try to talk again and they start a fight. Talking with other kids reveals some don't want to steal, crying about it. Mol is maybe the most evil being in the game after Orin. Considering the threats Mol makes in Act 3, combined with forcing crying little girls..let's hope Mol bites it before discovering forced prostitution.

I tried this quest; the kid was killed by a harpy. And now I am carrying around his body. What am I supposed to do with his corpse? Will there ever be an NPC that can cast resurrection?

            • Anonymous

Rescuing the druid locks you out of this quest. The harpies are there to be killed for XP but the kid is already dead.

I took his body back to the refugees, when I dropped it on the ground I got accosted by guards as if I were messing with a body/stealing.

Unable to complete quest "cleanly" due to one bad interaction.

I saved Doni, helped Meli get away with their theft, but grabbed Silfy by the arm when he tried to pickpocket me. Because of that last interaction, when I first talk to Mol they say that I terrified Silfy and says they'll get even. I can do a diplomacy check to smooth things over but she still tells me to leave. If I keep talking to her she eventually says that I was warned and reverts back to getting even (undoing the diplomacy). Only at this point will the quest actually complete saying I shouldn't expect Mol to talk to me anytime soon.

Not sure if it's better to complete the quest and ruin relationship with Mol, or leave when I'm ahead but leave the quest uncompleted...

For how early you can encounter this, it's a terrible situation.

I tried 5 times, every time all Harpies rolled higher Initiative than my entire party, meaning they immediatly kill the kid.

                  Cool.

There's 2 additional chests. one on the path down, bit of a jumping puzzle and the other is behind the rock formation the harpies are on.

Careful with finishing another questline before saving the child, might lock you out from finding Mol & Doni.

Pain in the ass encounter. Tried to pre-position party on cliff to get harpies flying across. Cutscene forces entire party down at the water. Try to run up and lure just brings party back down. Range from ground up sucks. The *****es fly down, hit, fly back. Mage died and left necrotic gas cloud and killed party near him. Could not target to revive him after harpies died. Was stuck..... Could not help party member one step up on a rock, said too far away even standing on his body. The whole encounter is frustrating at best. Better to try at higher level than 4. Harpies have around 24 HPs.
