Notes & Tips
- You can reach this area from the Defiled Temple, or Underdark.
- There's a hidden room with chests behind the wall. (Perception checks)
- You can shoot the gem held by the Selune statue to disable the traps at front gate.
- NOTE: This will cause an injured minotaur to charge at your party. If the main gate is still locked, it will be sturdy enough to hold him back for a few turns.
- There are many oil barrels scattered around the room. A bit of preparation could lead to an easy kill or break down the gate without much effort.
- NOTE: This will cause an injured minotaur to charge at your party. If the main gate is still locked, it will be sturdy enough to hold him back for a few turns.

On the ledge with the skeleton that has the key directly above the big iron gate is a good spot to cheese minotaurs. Have one party member aggro the other remaining minotaurs and use the secret passage (small crevice) to get back in. Minotaurs can’t climb the ladders so the just sit there

Playing at full release: There's an area above the gate where you can leave out. There is a skeleton that has the key and you can break the moonstone from this location. It seems that you have to be above the moonstone to break it. Also, the minotaur spawned when I got up there but the turrets killed it before I could do anything. Wonky area

I wonder if destroying the crystal has any effect on selune's disposition towards the party. At least Shadowheart got an inspiration event from destroying it

You don't actually need to destroy the gem, you can just sneak pass through it and you don't even need to pass any steath check.

Can you take the moonstone? I tried mage hand but I can't seem to interact with it.

The gems can no longer be targeted in the FULL game....only eyes can shut them down temporarily. The staff crystals in statues can no longer be targeted

The trapped and locked chest in the hidden room was empty at full release. I don’t know if the armor there was moved or removed from the game, but nothing was put in its place at launch.

The minotaur will also charge the gate even if you dont destroy the moonstone before, with the turrets gunning him down before it can break the gate most likely.
You can shoot the eyes of the statues at the front gate to disable the radiant turret effect. They will fire off three shots randomly, and then shut down for roughly two turns. In addition, you can disable them not only by destroying the Moonstone gem, but by also bringing a Sussar Bloom near the statue with the Moonstone on it. In terms of the Minotaur, it's not actually that large of a threat, and depending on where you came in from, you're likely already dealing with, or have dealt with it prior to getting to the gates. Never have I had it charge me from the front with the gate. Notable items include a helmet, some logbooks, the key to the front gate, right outside the front gate, a unique staff, and two books, a key, and a little farther down, a unique longsword which is also an Inspiration Point for obtaining it via the Religion check, destroying/disabling the Moonstone for an Inspiration for Acolyte's and Shadowheart. Quite a few barrels of Oil, quick access to an optional boss fight with the Spectator/Beholder enemy. The closest entrances are from the temple where the goblins are holed up via Gut's room, and from the hole you can jump down into, to get to the Underdark under the Blighted Village, and from the Zhentarim Hideout via a lift behind an illusory wall.
