Notes & Tips

  • Pass Arcane or Insight save checks 14 to learn the nature of the little boy.
  • To win the Hide and Seek game, you need to catch the boy twice without being caught by the enemies. The reward is a Ring of Shadows.
  • You can still get the Ring of Shadows for "Second Place" if you get caught by the shadows and return to the boy after the fight.
  • After Halsin retrieves the spirit of the land, you will learn the true nature of this little boy. Return to this place, and talk to Oliver to progress Lift the Shadow Curse.
  • Once you defeat Oliver's imaginary friends, you can return to camp and talk to Halsin.

      I pickpocketed the Ring of Shadows from him and then won the second game (switch to non-lethal damage and melee him). Then he gave me a Tourmaline ring that let's you recharge your Action once per turn.

      I had the eye from Volo that grants permanent See Invisibility.

      • XP:

        "Best Mummy Ever!" = 180xp
        "Strongest Daddy Ever!" = 180xp
        "Doggy" = 50xp
        The ring = 35xp
        => Total: 445xp

        If you play along the 2nd time, Shadowheart approves. If you kill the undead, then: when you talk to the boy, Laezel and Astarion disapprove (Why?! I don't understand). Three DC=14 probes led to the same answer and did not reveal who the boy was.

        There appears to be no real "hide". First time here: after I heard a voice, I saw the boy as soon as I approached the house. Only after I talked to the githyanki warrior and also looted the locked chest, did I talk to the boy - but he acted like he had not been spotted. For the 2nd round of hide & seek, my big party (4 members + 4 summons) were completely in the gaps between the lines of sight of the 3 undead (a perfect coincidence!?). When the game automatically entered the turn-based mode, the boy was right next to me and I could have talked to him to end this hide & seek.

        There seems to be no real fight, either. I killed two of the 3 shadows in the 1st round. The remaining one had a full (1st) turn to fight back but did not take offensive actions either. I think they were there just for the play. Killing them might be a mistake, roleplay-wise.

          Never had him appear in the house when the shades show up. I snuck in, looked around and he wasn't there. I have Volo's eye and it never did a roll or anything for him to avoid becoming visible. Luckily, you still get the ring for second place. I'm wondering if you also get the same amount of xp from winning as you do from killing the shades? Might actually be worth it to just fight them.

            "House with Flowers" quest on the map at this location. I did the little game with Oliver before i got it. I think it's for the cursed guy in the bed at the inn. Now there's no more dialogue from the kid... Bug or am i missing something?

              Oliver is Invisible, and as a result... See Invisibility makes your life super easy. Kid is all confused hilariously enough. Use Turn Based mode with See Invisibility active, and easy done. Alternatively, like previous folk said... kill the fam, and take "second" place, OR, give yourself a lil' five-finger discount, and play a game... I WOULD recommend NOT doing this quest UNTIL you resolve Halsin at the Last Light Inn to avoid potential issues of doing it ahead of time. In EA, Halsin wouldn't talk with Oliver, I encountered a similar issue where Halsin WOULD talk to Oliver, but didn't progress the quest. I have a similar ongoing issue with Wyll at the moment of telling him about daddy dearest is in the tower, with no updates to his quest. Those issues seem like bugs, to be honest. Didn't help I encountered an error while playing the game with Oliver and my game crashed, which is separate and apart from this quest, as far as I am aware. Figured it was worth noting.

                I did th eencounter with Oliver before the Lift the Shadow Curse quest. Is there still a way to progress it?

                  I found him once, then I decided I was done with his entitled antics. After the fight, he seems to have disappeared.

                    for anyone that feel wtf about this f quest and can't win the second hiding. i have some little hints without spoilers.
                    the gameplay you met may differ from me but the summary is this
                    - try use turn-based mode to hiding from the ghost and catch him with melee attack(in my case i used pommel but i think any melee will do).
                    =============================
                    next, for anyone who wanna get done with this kid (SPOILER!)
                    -at the beginning of 2nd hiding the kid is not at the position in the pic above but he's at the left side of the house(near the big log that have lit beazier) DO NOT GO THERE YET or it will start combat.
                    -then after the first turn(if you use TB Mode right away after he 2nd disappears) he will run toward the position in the pic above.
                    -he will use total 2 turns to reach the position in pic above so you can hit him in the middle while he running. or just wait him reach the position. and HIT HIM
                    hope this help and sry if this doesn't help you.

                      After this fight all my characters immediately died from the shadow curse and I had to reload before the fight. Absolute nonsense. What idiot designed this fight?
