Spell Sniper Information

How to unlock Spell Sniper

  • You'll need to fulfill the following requirements to unlock Spell Sniper
    • Spellcasting ability.
    • All Classes at Level 4

Spell Sniper Tips & Notes

  • Bugged at release. Did not increase the Critical Hit range as described. Fixed in Patch #3.
  • If the character selecting the Spell Sniper feat does not have existing caster levels, the default ability score being used to calculate your attack roll will be intelligence. They will still gain their proficiency bonus to the attack roll.
    • Example: A 4th Level Champion Fighter with an 8 intelligence selecting this feat will attack with a -1 penalty to hit from their ability score, and a +2 from their proficiency.
  • Stacks with Covert Cowl and similar items that increase the Critical Hit range.

Good use for getting eldritch blast for other classes, alternative is magic initiate warlock. Down to you if 5% higher crit rate or more 1 cantrip and 1 spell is better.

Can confirm that potent spellcasting, the cleric subclass feature, does not apply to eldritch blast if selected for this feat.

Patch #3 reports that this feat has now been fixed:

"Fixed the Spell Sniper feat not working on attack spells."
"The Spell Sniper feat will now correctly reduce the Critical Hit threshold by 1."

Is a cantrip also considered a spell? From the way I interpreted it, it looks like this feat gives you two things:
            1. A new cantrip
            2. All spell will have a 10% chance to crit (instead of 5)

Funny enough, I don't know if they fixed the crit bug but for some reason, I selected eldrich blast to learn as I had the other in my wizard but still did't get it, no idea why.

I took this as a Fighter(Champion subclass) and the cantrip was added to my bar, but when I check my Spellbook it isn't in there.

Does this mean I can class as Eldritch Knight and pick this feat to get Eldritch blast or do I still have to multiclass?

Not assuming items and permanent stat increase potions ( those exist in the game if you have the right companions/succeed right skill checks or look where you have to ) :

Eldritch Kamehameha . Put all your points into Int ( maxed ) + Charisma (high as you can ) Get 10 levels in evocation wizard and use the spell sniper to get this cantrip so it uses int mainly and gets the int modifier to damage from evocation level 10 and deals half damage per beam on a miss. Last 2 levels get warlock and get agonizing blast + repelling blast to also add charisma per beam as well and throw enemies back . Get Displace from the ilithid powers list to do damage to each creature that falls because of repelling blast. Basically you can pretty much just 1 shot most normal enemies with a cantrip aif you focus all beams on it . A kame and a Hame and I'll send him home to mommy .

Also, of particular note. You can actually dip into Warlock for the invocation at level 2 that adds knock-back to this spell (and another invocation for utility like Devil's Sight or Mage Armor without using a spell slot). But then take another casting class like Cleric or Wizard. And use this talent to pick Eldritch Blast and put it into those respective classes spell books. Adding it to your spell selection in those classes will make it scale with Wisdom or Intellect (respectively). Allowing you to utilize your other classes levels for the spellcasting stat and the level five effect of getting two beams from one casting. While still getting the knockback effect and The Great Old One's subclass feature Mortal Reminder (fears target and nearby enemy when you crit). And works really well with this talent's crit effect. All while focusing on a different spellcasting class entirely. This may seem like a lot of effort for a cantrip. But, even without Agonizing Blast adding a modifier to the cantrip's damage. It's still going to be the best damage dealing cantrip late game that you can get. And when you run out of spells and are stuck slinging your cantrip's. This will be real nice to fall back on.

Can anyone confirm if this feat can be selected multiple times? If so, looks like I might play a Great Old One warlock to level 2, then Fighter Champion to 8, and last to levels of warlock. Should reduce the crit window down to 15. Maybe good for crit fishing?

This is great for if you wanna do a caster cleric, since it gives you access to a consistent damage cantrip. Currently using it for chill touch on a necromancy themed knowledge cleric of Oghma (Since Myrkul is no longer available. Sad), and having a pretty good time.

The reduced critical range only applies to spell attacks. The game only informs you of this after you select the feat and view it in your character sheet.

"The number you need to roll a Critical Hit while attacking with a spell is reduced by 1. This effect can stack."

why does it have to be charisma when I pick this feat? in 5e it says:

"you have learned techniques to enhance your attacks with certain kinds of spells, gaining the following benefits:

When you cast a spell that requires you to make an attack roll, the spell's range is doubled.
Your ranged spell attacks ignore half cover and three-quarters cover.
You learn one cantrip that requires an attack roll. Choose the cantrip from the BARD, CLERIC, DRUID, Sorcerer, Warlock, or Wizardspell list. Your spellcasting ability for this cantrip DEPENDS ON THE SPELL LIST YOU CHOOSE FROM: Charisma for bard, sorcerer, and warlock; Wisdom for cleric or druid; or Intelligence for wizard."

In the game I HAVE to use charisma for some reason. kinda ruins my wizard build

So, its like I need to roll 19 to have a Critical Hit now? No restrictions on the type of attacks? Stacking? With this feat variant human, champion 3lvl might have a crit on 18?
