Charger

You gain Charger: Weapon Attack and Charger: Shove.

Charger is a Feat in Baldur's Gate 3. Feats are special talents or expertises that provide special capabilities to characters. At certain levels, your character will get to choose between an Ability Score Improvement Feature or a Feat. (Note this feat is not available in EA and all info is subject to change.)

Charger Information

  • You gain Charger: Weapon Attack and Charger: Shove.
  • This allows you to reach a target that you normally wouldn't get to in a turn with just your movement because you can move your full distance and charge into the target a good distance away and deal more damage when you're doing it

How to unlock Charger

You'll need to fulfill the following requirements to unlock Charger

Charger Tips & Notes

  • The push from this feat can also be used to push creatures that are too heavy for the default shove. Your push also scales with Strength/Athletics, and this feat makes it easier to push things or enemies around.
  • The damage output is based on your Main Hand Weapon and doesn't factor in whether it's dual wield.
  • There is definitely a case to be made for this, particularly if you are a melee character that has a hard time getting to the target that you're trying to reach
  • When charging, you do not need a target to do so, and you don't have to end your charge in the melee range of your target in order to hit them. The action part of the cost can be any Attack action during your turn, which gives you extra attacks before or after a charge.

If Charger: Shove costs an ACTION+ BONUS ACTION then i could just DASH then SHOVE as normal for the same effect, what a waste. Only benefit is it Doesn't provoke Opportunity Attacks i guess

it's horrible!!! for +5 damage you consume 1 action and bonus action... not matter you get extra reach lol...
just put 2 levels to rogue and get the dash bonus action! even have many other items like crusher ring what give +3m!
it should be a only bonus action then it is useful... or at least once per fights but then a free action!!!

        • You do NOT need a target to charge, and you do NOT need to end your charge in melee range of a target in order to hit them. You CAN charge when already in melee range. The Action part of the cost can be any attack action during your turn, meaning with extra attacks you can attack before or after a charge (or both if you have >2 attacks).

The movement is useful for avoiding opportunity attacks (essentially working like Disengage, though only for a portion of your movement). You can also pair it with Polearm Master, charge THROUGH your enemy, attacking them and making distance so that they have to trigger your opportunity attack in order to melee you in return.

All that, AND you do +5 damage. The drawback is that it consumes your bonus action. That means no jumping, no boots of speed/expeditious retreat, and you can only do it once per turn.

          • The damage dealt only cares about your main hand weapon-- doesn't take into account dual wielding sadly. Tried it on DWing scimitars, the listed hover damage stayed the same regardless of having two or one equiped.

Doesn't seem to take in to account reach weapons , will place you adjacent. Unlike in 5e this is not a bonus action after performing a dash , but an attack that uses an action and bonus action that moves you closer. It wont benefit from say longstrider other than enhancing your normal movement. The other possible downside here is it competes with extra attack, in 5e rules it cant be used with extra attack, not sure in Balders Gate 3. If it cant be used with extra attack , then this has limited uses for martials..

Regarding the Push , you would think this would be surplus to requirement , now that push is a bonus action , but in balders gate 3 your push scales with your strength/athletics and it feels like it is doubled with this feat as things go flying. Its like watching a cartoon as they are launched comically in to the air.
This lets your send enemies right in to your cloud of daggers , black tentacles , Spike Growth, off a cliff or many other options.
I made a Bard with expertise in athletics to fully benefit from this.

Charger: Weapon Attack adds +5 damage to your attack. Both of these attacks are Bonus Actions, meaning you can close the distance with a Bonus Action charge and still have all your main Action attacks afterwards.

This could be interesting when paired with sentinel, great weapon master and a spear. Chip away at their hp and go in for the kill with charge to activate weapon master. Not only that, the unit should be very mobile aswell on top of the good range. Could also potencialy put you in a place where you can one shot the enemy by shoving them since you got more wiggle room to position.

Spellcaster on the back row? You can dive to it. Need to retreat after going too far in? Charge back to an enemy closer to the party.

Seems pretty underrated to me on combat utility.
