Unlucky Thief's Gloves Location & How to Get in BG3

  • Location: Circus of the Last Days.
  • Possible prize from Akabi's Wheel of Wonders.
  • In addition to granting the best glove-slot buff of +2 to Sleight of Hand checks, these gloves also cause a lump of Charcoal to spawn in your inventory every time you pickpocket or steal an item. There is a small chance a Bucket of Coal will spawn instead, which causes you to start Burning, which will close the pickpocket interface due to you taking damage. One way to avoid this is to use the Reverse Rain Cloak (another random prize from Akabi's Wheel of Wonders) to make yourself always wet, and thus immune to Burning.

FYI: the dampening cloak that is also won or stolen from the circus Djinni, negates the burning effect on these gloves. ;)

Sometimes you will burn when stealing / pickpocketing with this equipped. Amusing at first, but when it knocks you out of stealth, it's more trouble than it's worth. Stick with the Gloves of Power for pickpocketing.

Not sure whether it's just RNG, but I got a Coal Bucket instead of Charcoal when stealing with it (was 17th stolen item during that turn I think) - the thing is, getting that item will burn you, meaning you'll be forced to stop pickpocketing for that turn. Quite funny, I'm fine with that.
