Shapeshifter's Boon Ring is one of the available Rings in Baldur's Gate 3. In BG3, there are two types of Accessories, which are Rings or Amulets. Once equipped, these Accessories may give the character certain bonuses, such as new Spells, resistance against certain kinds of damage, bonus AC, an increase to an Ability Score, or more.

Shapeshifter's Boon Ring Location & Where to Find
- Location: Druid Grove, next to Toron and the Oxen. X:219 Y:542. If you missed him here, you can meet him in Last Light Inn in Act 2 and Rivington in Act 3. (The Ox is a potential ally in Gather Your Allies quest, needs confirmation.)
- Drop by Strange Ox
Shapeshifter's Boon Ring Notes & Tips
- When walking by the Strange Ox, an Insight check will be rolled. If a character succeeds the check, they will remark that the Ox's gaze is following them.
- To obtain the ring, you will need to kill the Strange Ox - it cannot be pickpocketed, and attempting to knock it Unconscious with Non-Lethal attacks will cause it release acid, killing it regardless. Attacking it will initiate combat with it, Toron and the other two Ox.
- When first attacked and killed, the Strange Ox will release a blast of acid onto the ground and on nearby entities. The blast deals 8d8 (~36) acid damage and gives the acid condition, which can be deadly for low-level characters.
- To avoid taking damage, attack it and its allies from afar using ranged weapons or spells.
- Loot the Strange Ox's body once the acid fades away, or splash water onto the acid to clear it.
- This ring works with the Disguise Self spell or Mask of the Shapeshifter.
- My advice without spoilers is to leave the ox alive within the grove as you will meet it once more later when it has grown a bit stronger and has a few extra treasures.

Combine this ring with Guidance and Disguise Self to make all pickpockets with a roll target of 4 or lower auto-succeed, and all with a target below 8 extremely likely to succeed, baring a natural 1.
Play a Halfling, use Enhance Ability: Cat's Grace, or wear Gloves of Thievery to make Nat 1s a 1-in-400 chance instead of 1-in-20, and you'll almost never see Nat 1s, making pickpocketing anything that's not both expensive *and* heavy extremely trivial.

Kind of op, but also gives you a reason to cast disguise self which lets you pretend like it actually does something for RP purposes.

This ring does have a big downside: when disguised you don't seem to be able to use class specific dialog options.
For example, my Sorcerer when opening the Necromancer boom for the first time can make Charisma checks instead of Wisdom. But if I were to have Disguise active, I wouldn't get those options.
Something to keep in mind when using thos ring with Disguise.

Or, you can just NOT kill the ox, meet them on the way into BG in act 3, have a discussion, sneak him into BG while they're shapeshifted to appear as an apple, then you still get the ring AANNDD the ox can join you for the final fight.
Ox is the same creature as Dark Urge I guess, I mean - with the same spirit, even if you will kill Ox as an Urge in the cut-scene it will refuse to become something more than the Ox and transform back only after death, what a hero.
It's pretty strange, but it feels like random events like this are all created to choose your side as a Hero or as an Urge and always lose all drama if you are a player-created character or an original
If you want to be an chaotic evil - kill it in special cutscene
If you want to control your Urge - spare the brave one

By chance does this work with Symbiotic Entity on spore druid? I doubt it but worth asking.

the way the ring works is it applies a permanent buff if you cast your shapeshift spell or disguise spell while wearing it. Afterwards you can take it off and wear a different ring. The effect will persist until you drop your disguise.

You can kill the Strange Ox in Act 2, killing it in Act 1 is terrible advice as it breaks Karlach's personal quest.

For some reason killing this Ox in Emerald Grove stops Dammon from being at the last light inn, soft locking Karlachs companion quest for the 2nd Act.

If u dont kill it in druids grove, u can find strage Ox again in "Last light Inn", if u speak to him again, he will show u his creepy mind and u can force him to show his true nature, he will transform into an acid slime that has around 160hp(tactician) and hits fairly hard, be careful to not let that creature to kill Damon blacksmith, bcuz he will be nearby and he has only 10 hp.
Although u are not forced to kill him here, u can just tell him that u will keep his secret and just leave, i wonder if there is more story to that quest...

Slap the ox with mage hand in the groove while all your characters stand far away (near the jail)
Once the ox have killed the hand, have the owner of the hand go talk with it.
It will demand you pay for what you did. Say yes and it opens a trade window. Buy the ring
