I used a trick with Drakethroat Glaive to give frost damage to a different weapon, and therefore trigger this effect on every melee attack. With the right boots, its exceptionally powerful. I imagine it would also work if you used the trick on a ranged weapon, therefore being able to create ice patches at range, possibly to multiple enemies at a time with with either multi attack or even Swords Bard flourish attack. Wouldn't even need the boots at that point.

As of Patch 1: You can trigger the ice puddle multiple times a turn, but only once per source of damage.

Cleave/AOE effects such as cleave with frost damaging weapon and frost dragonborn breath will only trigger one pool no matter how many targets they hit.

Only active/direct sources of damage will trigger this effect. Passive aoe / reflective sources like Hunger of Hadar and Armor of Agathys will not trigger any pools at all.

If you get this and use it with Hunger of Hadar, all of a sudden it becomes one of the best spells in the game, rivaling ice storm

I found this ring under the floorboards in act 2 at last Light Inn. You need perception to find the hidden compartment in the floor near the bed.
