For plot reasons I wanted him to keep the ring. He said it shielded his location from the elder brain… I wondered if it would have any impact on that or if it was just flavour text they never expanded on

Can confirm, it can be pickpocketed. Just did it (first playthrough)

Does this ring actually DO anything? Besides it's magical buff of giving you Adv vs Charmed. I noticed when I put it on in the Underdark when I got it, the Illithid prompt went away, but the options remained from that point on. Unfortunately, I never really took it off to properly test it at the time. Both in EA, and Release. Maybe there is a hidden counter for Illithid tags? Likely influencing a DC towards end game of some kind? That would be my guess, presuming the item itself just simply isn't a Red Herring aka misdirect. If it's just the Adv vs Charmed effect, then it's virtually useless on an elf, which is Astarion, Shadowheart, Jaheira, and potentially a Custom. Seeing as how Advantage does not stack same as the 5e rule set.
lmao this ring is priceless 5sec later 210 coin for it
