    • This is cool and all but you can get a hireling and make it a cleric and have it cast warding bond and Aid on you, and leave them at camp. You don't need the rings. Make them cleric and bard so that they can also provide song of rest for you whenever. Had three of these hirelings using warding bond on all my characters and even my summons. But recently took it off as the fights are way too easy like this.

There's either a bug or an undocumented event consequence when it comes to this ring, which is perhaps one of the most powerful magic items in the game -- effectively being a ring of 2X hit points when used smartly (as a battery). So pay attention to it in your inventory in case the game (or the bug) replaces it.

I was making use of this with the warding player being one that remained back in camp. At one point in the game, the True Love's Caress ring ended up replaced in my main char's inventory with a non-magical bloody signet ring (while I had it equipped). This happened literally between two saves that were two minutes apart in game play, while I was in the Elfsong Tavern, shortly after entering the Lower City. At the time, I had True Love's Embrace on a character that I later discovered had gotten ...captured (trying not to drop any spoilers), although I do not know if that's a trigger for the "bug" or not.

I didn't realize the swap out/bug for about 5 hours of game play, because the warding effect will remain after the spell is cast, even if the ring(s) are removed from the casting and receiving player.

So, if using this pair of rings as a "battery," I suggest equipping the rings on the characters sharing the bond. Casting the spell, after a long rest, then removing both rings and storing them back in inventory on your main char or somewhere you'll check periodically to make sure the game isn't stealing your ring from you and replacing it with a worthless bauble!

Amazing mechanic combined with amazing storytelling. The story is also a hint on how you SHOULD be using these rings!

Putting them on two party members doesn’t make sense, as you are simply passing damage around at the cost of losing two ring slots

The proper way to use them is, like in Miranda’s story, to slap the damage receiving ring onto a non-combatant. Use a non-active companion or, better yet, a hireling specifically built for high health pool, equip the ring, and leave them at camp. Voila, you have your own living battery to siphon life force! After having seen so many villains in various media using this mechanic, it’s great to have the option of so nonchalantly doing it yourself.

Of all the environmental storytelling aspects of the game... this one... this one makes me angry. Truly hope Miranda suffered a horrible, excruciatingly painful death. That would be the only real justice in the relationship and origins of this pair of rings.

If the target of "Gentle Warding Bond" already has a "Warding Bond", at either side of the link, then it will not redirect damage to the original caster (of Gentle Warding Bond).

Meaning, there will be 3 character with a warding bond buff but only 1 will split damage, have the +1 to Armor Class, Saving Throws and resistance to all damage.

** It will NOT "chain" the split damage through multiple party members (player 1 -> player 2 -> player 3).
** It will not "fork" (?) the split damage from one target through two other targets at the same time (player 1 -> player 2 + player 1 -> player 3)

Tip: Warding bond spells work great with defensive affixes like "All incoming damage is reduced by 2". The -2 reduction of damage applies AFTER the resistance ( x0.5) and BEFORE the split.
              - Example: With the All damage reduction affix + Warding Bond, if incoming damage roll is 27 the formula would be [ 27 - 14 (Resistance) - 2 (Magical Plate)] = hit for 11 damage on BOTH the target and the caster.
-- But, if the caster of Warding bond is the only one wearing the -2 damage reduction affix and their bond target is hit with the same incoming damage then the damage split would be 13(target) and then 11(caster).
