I killed the ox on emerald grove and lost the hat, got only the ring

Is there a way of getting this without killing the Strange Ox?

Does this trigger from fire-self-damage via the heat status effect? If so, a self-ignite build might sound fun to try out.
I got this for the first time just now and the effectiveness of a singular scorching ray enables me to land spells SO much more, even if fire/scorching ray isn't the crux of my builds, i will use it just to turn anything else online for the combat, it's that good
Obviously there are better hats out there for specific builds, but the effectiveness of this hat is so simple to fit into any build and is pretty easy to acquire as well (Just Animal Speak the Ox and then have all your character run into the center of town and the npcs will join in and bop it with you)

scorching ray makes this stack multiple times, opens op lots of fun builds
Want a fun way to use this item that ISN'T Scorching Ray based?
Use it on a Monk equipped with any gloves equipped that give unarmed attacks fire damage (Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle for example).
The double punch Monk bonus attack stacks this effect TWICE, meaning one Bonus Action gives you 4 Arcane Acuity and you've still got your main Action to use afterwards! Splash 3 points into Thief and you can use 2 bonus action double punches for 8 Arcane Acuity, then use an almost unstoppable crowd control spell, my personal favourite is Command Halt as that doesn't require concentration, is obtainable with just a level 1 Warlock and upscales to give you multiple targets at higher levels. And the extra added bonus for this Fire Monklock is that Warlock spell slots refresh on short rest, just like your Ki! So the synergy is really nice.
