Potent Robe is a Clothing in Baldur's Gate 3.  Clothing can be equipped to a character's body in their designated inventory slot, providing AC and sometimes special effects. Although heavier armor usually provides more protection, keep in mind they may also hinder your characters' spell casting.

FYI for my Dark Urge honor mode enjoyers: I found that Alfira will attempt to come to your camp after the first meeting with your dream guardian. Non-lethal attack her to knock her out after you have that dream and you should be good to go.

For those who say you cant do this on a evil playthrough, you can. Go on nexus mods and look up potent robe and you can import the item in your game. So now thanks to mods, you can be evil and get this robe.

You know this comment section made me dislike this fandom. Someone mad the robed that would be great for an evil run are locked by good guy options. Better insult them because reasons. It's not even just the robes the bloody flawed helldusk armor is locked by that same stupid choice.

          • Anonymous

Lock away from evil wizards becaus DEI manipulation, I say install a mod which let you get the rewards of the npc by killing him.

            • Anonymous

Not worth it IMO. I like the challenge and this robe pretty much trivializes the game. Besides, the spider silk armor is much better because it provides more AC and provides advantage to constitution saves, allowing you to be tankier and to not lose concentration on darkness when you are both saving your party members from enemy attacks AND melting enemies with EB.

This Robe, while being an amazing piece of armour is something thats not necessary imo but just really weird. If you got some kind of wizard robe for Gale or some kind of Bard outfit, that would make sense, but a robe for Warlocks/Sorcerers? Not to type cast here, DND lets you be anything, but these are some of the most common classes for evil PCs. Hell, the fact Wyll is a folk hero but also a warlock is supposed to be a subversion and a clever twist on the class.

I suppose the robe is good and also in character to obtain for Wyll, but the robe itself just doesn't look right on him. Wyll is a guy who at first glance looks like a Fighter or a Ranger but has secretly made a pact with a devil. He calls himself the blade of frontiers, he introduces himself by stabbing a Goblin with a rapier, all his catchphrases mention swords and blades, why would he be wearing a robe that clearly marks him as a spellcaster?

And the real kick in the teeth is the Mourning Frost. This weapon is seemingly associated with Drow. You obtain it from 3 different Drow one of which has unique dialogue with a Drow Tav, its abilities are called "Heart of Ice" and "Insidious Frost" which make it a perfect weapon for evil Sorcerers/Wizards, and it synergises with loads of items that increase cantrip damage by spell mods. Most of all, this particular item. There is a build you can make where you use the gauntlets that increase cantrip damage by Spell mod, draconic bloodline Ice, Potent Robe, and get 20 Charisma, you now deal 18-32 damage with Ray of Frost, which also will deal double damage with Chilled. Its very fun, maybe not the best build ever but its fun and thats what matters.

Like I mentioned, this builds really cool for Drow, its associated with them and has cool rp potential. You know what Drow are heavily incentivised to do in Act 1? Side with Minthara. Locking you out of the robe. Yeah.

I am fine to go on without this item, I'm probably gonna have a tougher time later and my build doesn't feel complete but then again serves me right for "setting fire to a pack of refugees" as Shart puts it. But I just wish the incentives were a bit more in line with what classes typically do what. Again, if this was a wizard robe for Gale, or hell even if this very robe was more in line with Wyll's aesthetics, the good guys can get rewarded for good actions. Evil players can just go "Hey sad I missed out on this cool item but hey I'm not using Gale because he's a goody two shoes so oh well" instead of "My build is ruined."

I have yet to test it personally, but you can allegedly get this robe as the Dark Urge if you knock Alfira unconscious before you take a long rest. Instead of murdering Alfira when you rest, you'll murder another Bard, Quil Grootslang, a nobody NPC (they might work at the music shop in Baldur's Gate idr). You do have to side with tieflings/the grove in Act 1, though, because you still need to complete the "Rescue the Tieflings" Quest in Act 2. (Idk if this dialogue is uinique to dragonborns, but Quil is oddly flirty when she arrives at camp).

I've decided to base an entire build around this item. 2 levels GOO warlock for agonizing blast, 10 levels evocation wizard. Each blast is gonna add my Cha twice and my Int once. I can't wait.

                    • Anonymous

The stacking with Agonizing Blast probably deserves a nerf. Combine it with Hex and the Charisma hat and you can get 14~23 of ranged damage three times per turn. That's insane!

                      • The robe primarily only benefits someone who frequently attacks with a cantrip and also has a high-than-usual CHA (at least 14+). Other than Warlock, other CHA-based classes - Sorc, Bard, Pally - can hardly make full use of it.

I'm not sure why so many comments seem to consider this a very powerful item. Among all the companions, if they all keep their initial default class, only Wyll can make full/good use of the robe.

The robe allows Wyll of level 10+ with CHA = 18 to add a total of 4x3 = 12 force damage to his EB per action - by default, he can only take this one action per turn => So, the robe = 12 extra damage per turn. Or, if hasted, 24 extra damage per turn, assuming every beam hits. Or, if hasted + quickened, 36 extra damage for that 1 turn, again assuming every beam hits, also assuming Wyll is multiclassed to have access to Quickened Spell.

The robe gives Wyll (in above example) 4 / (1D10+4) = 42% damage boost from his EB.

A Sorcerer may also try to make good use of the robe. Assuming Wyll is also a Fire Sorcerer: his Fire Bolt cantrip does 3D10+4 by default. With the robe, it becomes (3D10+4)+4. If he's hasted + twinned + quickened for 1 turn, the robe-induced extra damage from his Fire Bolt during that 1 turn = 4 x 2 (twinned) x 2 (twice twinned) + 4 (quickened) = 20 fire extra, assuming all bolts hit and there is no fire resistance/immunity.

There is a huge difference between a Warlock and a Sorcerer when it comes to attacking with a cantrip. Warlock has no spell slots to burn powerful spells all day long, whereas Sorcerer loses damage output by switching to cantrips.

My final take is: Unless a player party has another Warlock, this robe is really meant just for Wyll alone - even so, if he goes the Pack of the Blade path to fit his reputation, he may have to wear (heavy) armor in order to help him survive melee combat, especially if he's only played on Tactician for the entire game. If that happens such that nobody can make full/good use of it, this potent robe may very well turn out to be just an excellent collector item.

                        • Anonymous

The easiest way to get this robe as Dark Urge: Have someone who can cast Sleep in your party.
Talk with Alfira first if you wanna do her song/dialogue shenanigans.
1.Toggle Turn Based Mode and Non Lethal-Attacks (Passives Tab)
2.Cast Sleep on her (100% hit and crit chance with melee)
3.Use a heavy hitter melee to knock her out. (usually 1 hit, but could take several tries, half orcs will most likely one tap)

You won't loose attitude with her this way as Sleep made her unconscious beforehand.

Love how all the Karlach simps are like "you chose the evil choice, you gotta deal with missing a lot of content" but raiding the grove feels more chaotic neutral than true evil, in fact on a blind playthrough the game strongly hints that siding with Minthara is the right thing to do, the Tieflings are made out to be a bunch of racist thieves that are trying to kick the Druids out of their own home, the Druids themselves tell you they can't help and drinking fatal poison would be doing the world a favour, while the Goblin camp welcomes you as a guest of honour and offer to help on your personal quest if you aid them in battle, there's even that "oh ****, I screwed up" moment if you kill Minthara and then see the camp supply pack on her corpse

                            • No-no, baddies. You are locked out from this one unless you save tieflings and Alfira. And you can't get this item from her corpse because she suddenly takes robes out from one of her holes for no reason after specific quest. Seems logical

                              • Anonymous

Durge note- quicksave on every long rest before killing Alfira, and don't save the Grove until you do. once it happens, reload and go find Alfira overlooking the sea in the Grove and knock her out. this saves Alfira and let's you get the potent Robe. Again, DONT SAVE THE GROVE UNTIL YOU KILL QUIL (alfiras replacement)

Ill be putting this on my lockadin for sure until i get to axt 3. Heavy armor is nice as a paladin but this robe will make both.my divine smites and my eldrich blasts hit like a truck.

Having such a powerful item as a quest reward from Alfira is straight up moronic, basically Larian saying **** you if you decide to side with Minthara / are playing dark urge. Guess it's time to boot up Cheat engine and spawn the robe

                                    • Anonymous

If you are DU, you can knockout Alfira to get this item. Another bard will show up at your camp and Alfira will still be alive, you can finish her quest in Act 2.

You know this is one thing that pisses me off about doing a "bad guy". It's 10x more worth it to play it straight good than evil because you miss out on good gear, 2 or more companions (including act6 3) and a ton of early parasites and the alternative is... a drow companion? Give me a break.

So warlocks (and perhaps sorcs) are locked to save the tieflings and thus the druid grove in order to get this item. I hate when an item is necessary for a build, that can only be obtained if you do a story one way. I don't like saving those flea bitten tieflings and least alone siding with tree hugging selfish druids. I guess I just won't play a warlock. Can anyobody comfirm if warlock multiclasses are okay to play without this item? Such as sorlock or lockadin?

So if you play Sorcerer do Firebolt it takes x2 Charisma?.
If you play Wizard Do Firebolt and you have Charisma +1, it just does +1 +Int?

                                              • Anonymous

This armor indeed stacks with agonizing blast to increase your damage with eldritch blast by charisma X2. The only downside is the temporary hit points per turn. If you are running this on Wyll it blocks his Dark blessing temp hitpoints. The damage is hard to pass up though XD

Can anyone confirm one way or another if this can be obtained by TDU?

I know you can knock out Alfira so she doesn’t die, but does her quest line continue? Or is she treated, effectively, as dead from there on out?

                                                  • Anonymous

Is this obtainable as TDU? I want to get it for a warlock run but I don't know if knocking out Alfira causes her to dissapear from act 2 or not.
