People are asking what "it disintegrates into a crumbly ash" means and whether it's just a cosmetic effect. Based on my testing it seems that if the disintegration into ash actually happens, it prevents any effects that would normally save the NPCs live from activating - e.g. if they were in wild shape, normally they would just revert into their normal shape upon death, but with disintegrate they are just disintegrated

The people complaining about this are obviously not sorcerers. Sorcerers can cast Heightened Spell to guarantee success

"The Abra Cadabra" (Which is pretty heckin simular. Try it on for size why don't you?)

"Who the heck is Lester Knight Chaykin?"

          "The eat my pants."

          "The darn you in particular."

          "Pick up that canned good."
"No, I will not eat that! Slot off, fragface! *discombobulated theme tune sounds*

          "Whose Bill Jates"

This is useful when you are on a timer and need to kill an enemy instantly, like in the Iron Throne quest. Only worth using if you have a decent spell save DC though

lol at the people who try to cast this on high dexterity enemies. if you have an enemy with high dexterity, disintegrate seems like an overkill. I've used it on Ansur, Hag, Elder Brain and few other enemies and didn't even know a save would completely nullify damage.

In case anyone's wondering, no it does not disintegrate the hag, preventing her from resurrecting. What's the point of the "disintegrates into a crumbly ash" effect of the spell if it is not useful against enemies with resurrection mechanics? Just a cosmetic effect for a level 6 spell?

So basically this deals 0 dmg for a 6 lvl slot if the enemy succeeds dex save? I better upcast my scorching ray

what is the crumbly ash thing? enemies already seem to turn to ash from lightning and fire spells. is it just asthetic? or does it destroy loot or something?

"Crumbly ash?" Meh, would be cooler if it had built in corpse explosion and deal the remaining overkill damage as AOE.
