I used this on Gortash after getting him out of his little room and the fight was so free. He never broke out.

This spell breaks SO many interactions in the game. Petrify a boss, and you are locked in combat, petrify a target for a quest like the Scrying Eye in Grymforge and it doesn't count as a kill, you can't pickpocket a petrified thing, and you can't move a petrified thing. It's great fun at breaking things, especially when used in tandem with Otto's Dance, as it stones them while dancing, but honestly... for ALL that it is worth... do NOT use this spell if you value progression. I was able to petrify Orrin in Act 3 when she was disguised. This literally broke all of Act 3. -- I reiterate: DO NOT USE THIS SPELL IF YOU VALUE YOUR PROGRESSION. While it may be fun, and funny when it works, it's absolutely NOT worth it, majority of the time. Even if you have the Basilisk Oil to undo to Petrification, just, don't.

Used it on a particular late game boss. Targets a different save than Hold Monster but it's pretty clearly worse than Hold Monster. I guess if you're alone and need to end a fight in 3 rounds, are dealing with one dude, and can be sure they'll fail 3 saves in a row then yeah, I guess you win that one. Otherwise spend your level 6 slot on something good, like upcasting Hold Monster to target 2 goons.

I find the annoying part of this spell being that, you HAVE to destroy their stone body after you petrify them. Otherwise you are stuck in turn based combat until they are dead. Really lame they didn't decide to let you use basilisk oil or some other means to interact with their stone body.

Save or nothing, concentration spell, single target
And you need to fail 3 times in order to make it awesome effect.

Hold monster will be better 99% of the time.
