    • It's not that good spell. In many situations cloudkill will be better. Cloudkill does 5d8 damage, but make it twice, so it's the same 10d8, but have large radius and can hit more enemies and can free cast 10 times in a row.

Chain lighting can have x2 damage by wet, but it's not really easy to do that, you need to have cleric or druid and UPCAST rain to have enough radius, because it's really small.

But it is good against steel watch because they vulnerable against lighting but it's the only exception. In any other situation cloudkill and better and cheaper.

For those looking to optimize chain lightning use: go 6 cleric 6 sorc, get amulet of devotee for 3 destructive wraths per short rest, , markoheshir lightning favour, Haste and quicken, freecast and arcane battery for: 3 chain lightnings, all doing the max damage possible, for up to 12 ticks. Wet enemies, lightning charges + some better armor like potent robes and you're reaching possibly 1500-2k damage in 1 character turn

Love it ! With a quickened spell meta-magic and an item/s which allows you to not use a spell slot, you can just open combat with two consecutive chain lightnings and half of the enemies are down (200-300 damage with some decent rolls). Also this is highly recommendable to be played with a Storm sorcerer because of the class bonuses, amazing synergy.

This has not been working for me so far. Never seen the three lightning bolt spawning from my cast, either they save or not. Anybody same issue?
