Elixir of Barkskin is a Potion and Item in Baldur's Gate 3. Elixir of Barkskin is great for unarmored characters before they get into battle. Some Items can be consumed, granting various effects like buffing the Character or restoring HP, while others can be used to interact with the environment or provide Lore about Baldur's Gate 3 world.
Before your eyes, the elixir firms into a tough, striated twig, then it liquefies once more.

my toon has 10 base AC with +6 from armor so 16. Tested this to see if it raised my base to 16 and added my extra 6. It does not. It stayed at 16.

Note that this elixir does not set your *base* AC to 16. Instead, it adds enough bonus AC to set you to 16, if you're below that. But if you're already at or above 16, it does absolutely nothing.
And note, this is how it works in DnD 5e, so that's intended. It's just that the description in BG3 is terrible.
