Hypnotic pattern could take an entire room out of combat for 3 turns and if they don't make their initial saving throw *they can't reattempt to save on each turn*.
Every enemy now has 0 actions for 3 turns, massive action economy advantage to your party. You can use the time to burst down worrisome enemies (or enemies that saved) without fear of being attacked by the others and even if they decide to attack or help their allies out of that, they have literally just dedicated their turn to doing that.

Haste - The person you taget gains +1 action (Don't cast it on yourself) if you lose concentration you cannot move and cannot take actions (Potion of speed is kinda better despite not lasting very long just because it's not concentration; if the enemies are still alive when this expires you're doing something wrong)

If I was to ask for a competing spell I'd potentially try Confusion.

Amazing spell. Sure it's not as good as 5th Editions, but that spell is unreasonably good there.

Locking down 3-5 mobs for two turns whilst you deal with the rest is game changing, and if you need more time. Just cast it again.

        • It's not that good than you think. It's like AOE sleep, but have the same disadvantages - enemy can wake up his ally just but pushing it, it's bonus action, then second push third and all like that will be waken up.

It's worth it only if you make sleep ALL enemies, what will be rare

          • Great spell, had a blast using it on my first tactician clear-- However just to point out for efficiency sakes-- Command: Halt does the same thing, but this becomes much more efficient if you're casting it on 3+ enemies. This requires Concentration, Halt doesn't, so it has it's ups and downs but both spells are amazing though!

People are definitely overhating on this, if you can't see the value in being able to take a large AoE of enemies out of the fight for 2 turns as you go in and wreak unmitigated havoc on them, that's on you. Granted the fact that it's interrupted when you do hit them stops it from being OP, but it's still a great choice, especially if you're running it with a heavy hitter with resets like a Barb or Fighter who is just happy to have nothing them stop them as they run up on their targets.

Great aoe control for bard for 3rd level. 2 turns is plenty for your party to kill at least 2-3 enemies, assuming this won't fail on apply ofc

Yep, almost pointless for a 3rd-level spell with that short of a duration. So disappointed on my bard when I got to level 5.

One of the best 3rd level spells in 5e. Significantly nerfed for BG3 currently with 2 turn duration as opposed to 10 in 5e.
