Medium Armor in Baldur's Gate 3 features various sets and pieces that provide defenses and additional bonuses to the playable character. Medium Armor grants defenses against various Enemies and also provides with different fixed and random modifiers that affect the player stats. (I've done several playbthroughs and I've only gotten this one once I'm not sure if larian added in or maybe it's bc the trap on the chest went off and changed the Armor inside. I'll try to look more into it though.)

If you are a ranger and find the yuan-ti scale mail you are set. Few armor sets are better for a dex based character.

There is a visual bug with the Yuan-ti Scale Mail that causes the chainmail on your arms to *grow* and extend to stick out past your elbows like another set of arms xD There is no page for the armor yet so I'm just adding it here in case someone sees it *shrug*

So any race with +1 to Dexterity, will be able to use medium armour to be equal to that of the "best" Heavy Armour.
16 Dex gives a +3 AC modifier. So every Medium Armour 13 will give a total of 16, and anything above that, well gives more.
The Dark Justiciar Half Plate pages are currently messed up. When you click on the "Rare" variant, it takes you to the "Very Rare" version's page, albeit incorrectly labeled as "Rare". The "Very Rare" version doesn't even have a link.
Basically, the Rare version needs to have a page made for it and the Very Rare needs to link to where the Rare currently links with the rarity changed to be correct.
