Unarmoured Defence Tips & Notes
- Unarmoured Defence from one class, Monk or Barbarian, doesn't stack with the similar feature of another.
- Unlike D&D 5e, it does currently stacks with Mage Armour however.
- Unarmoured Defence works in conjunction with wielding a shield for Barbarians.
- Monk will not gain any AC benefit from a shield and Unarmoured Defence at the same time. Even if the Monk has shield proficiency and a Wisdom modifier of +3 or higher.

monk and barbarian version dont stack, but are both equally active. and will use the one that gives the most AC no matter what. so if your doing both just do Con, and dont lvl WIS

Question... Does anyone know if Shields count as armor? Would a human be able to wield a shield + get the unarmored defense?
If it wasn't for my monk's unarmored movement I would really not see the use of this perk...
Wearing Medium armor for barbarian seems to always be better even at 20 con...

There are currently two pages for this, one for the correct spelling and one for the (YOUR COUNTRY HERE) spelling.

Since they don't stack, which one would take priority? Whichever's highest?

Too bad it doesn't work like dnd 5th edition with armor class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier. So normal max at 20 str gives 15 armor class only

Unfortunately Barbarian one and Monk one do not stack, so kiss goodbye your STR-based monk/barbarian tavern brawler feat builds.

Sadly, it seems natural armors (such as granted by Barkskin or Draconic Resilience) do not count as the "unarmored" portion. So instead of getting that + dex + wis/con you just get that + dex.

I can confirm that monk and barbarian unarmed defence does not stack, which makes sense since monks use their intuition to completely evade the blow whereas barbarians just move enough that it hits something unimportant (like a kidney).

I have a level 4 rogue that is leveling up. I saved right before I did the level of process. I took one level of Monk and it will not give me an armored defense. I'm not wearing armor or carrying a shield. I have stripped my character completely nude. My character is a high dex and Wis based rogue. The plan was from the very beginning to go into Monk. I currently have mage armor activated on my rogue. He is still on the battlefield but the fight is over. He's in act one goblin camp. I'm thinking maybe if I go to my camp and sleep a full night's rest. Then maybe if I level up with mage armor deactivated. Maybe it'll allow me to have an armored defense. If that doesn't work do I have any suggestions from you all. On what I can try next to have a Rogue Monk character.
