I've been using it with the blast pendant and the sparkswall, having shadowheart douse everyone in water, and then using my sorceror to cast black hole with call lightning, combined with cull the weak is super strong. sometimes if having the chance to set up, not always possible, can combine with Psionic Overload for those extra hits to proc cull the weak, and if possible Mind Sanctuary to double cast call lightning, though by time you have that set up, the enemy are all already dead anyway

If you're looking at this wiki page because you're trying to decide which of the three rewards to pick. It's this one. This is the best one.

Can I combine this with lightning elemental affinity for some OP magic missiles at lvl 6?

I don't really understand the mechanics of why or how this works, but just thought I'd point out: I threw grease at a pair of goblins with Laezel and then cast fire bolt with Tav. The goblin who I hit with fire bolt took 3 fire damage; the goblin who I did NOT hit with fire bolt took 4 fire damage from the burn effect AND 1 lightning damage from spellsparkler proccing. On his next turn, he took 2 burning damage and another 1 lightning damage. So, at least for the burn status effect, this could be used to proc lightning damage on a LOT of enemies at once.

I put them in the hands of Shadowheart as a tempest cleric and I'm happy I dd. With just 1 lightning damage added on a spell a tempest cleric can use almost anything to knock enemies back, like sacred flame or guiding bolt. But I learned from this that persistent area spells like spirit guardian's only grant charges if enemies are in the aura when it is cast. Charges are not granted on subsequent turns when enemies take damage, but if you already have charges they will take lightning damage from it. With charges, spirit guardian's turns her into a wrecking ball just knocking enemies out of her way as she moved. Some like zombies are so dumb they may be knocked on their butts, get up and do it again, which is cool because they take the radiant and lightning twice on their turn. You can keep the charges going by using any other direct damage spell. Summons like spiritual weapon and guardian of faith will not benefit at all.

All these posts talking about using this with Eldritch Blast...
Douse a enemy in water and blast it with a upcast magic missile while using this staff. Insane damage.

for some reason or another from the testing I've done, it doesn't seem to work with the monk's way of the four elements spells

Is there a console command or something I can do to get this? I made a bad choice for the quest reward.

Lightning charges themselves seem broken in general. They seem to double dip on debuff applications and some sources of extra damage.

Easily missable if you do not talk to the right npc and trigger the quest immediately when you pass through the area. You won't get the chance to save Florrick and this staff is gone for good. Annoying

Should honestly be removed from the game with how broken lightning charges are and how they interact with eldritch / hex

as a warlock i wish i actually read the effect instead of just assuming it was the exact same as the bow and trident rewards (attacks with weapon gives lightning charges).

Warlock level 2 with multiclass blue dragon sorc for elemental affinty adds your cha modifier to each point of damage from this. Combine this with potent robes and hex and you can do absurd damage with your eldritch blasts

Does not seem to work on AOE spells like fireball, but you do get multiple procs from something like scorching ray or magic missile. Remember though, that when you gain lightning charges from the first hit, you'll spend one from the next. So 3 hits will net you 4 lightning charges, not 6, meaning you miss out on the 1d8 effect.

Obscenely strong warlock staff when combined with Eldritch blast. Works incredibly well with the Lifebringer. Every instance of damage from the base spell procs it for 2 lightning charges and gives you 3 temporary hit points. Also works very well with magic missile + Psychic Spark which allows you to generate 8 lightning charges, 12 temporary hit points and a ton of extra guaranteed lightning damage on that magic missiles cast without upcasting it. Casters are typically very fragile so this extra durability is extremely noticeable.

Pretty good with Magic Missile and Scorching Ray.
Must be decent for EB Warlock as well.

Playing a Sorcerer allows you to spend Sorcery Points on Twinned Spell with this to some AMAZING results. Magic Missile & Scorching Ray are exceptionally good, but you can also pick up the Spell Sniper Feat and grab Eldritch Blast as another Cantrip that splits to build charges super quickly, while focusing on single target magic.
I'm just at level 5 now, so I've yet to see if this damage will cause the Heart of the Storm sub-class ability you get at level 6 to proc on each hit of Lv1+ spells cast from this dealing lightning damage — but if it does, that will be an INSANE build exactly like I was hoping for.

Super potent with multihit spells like Magic Missile or Scorching ray, I have yet to thoroughly test it out on AoE spells, but it seems like it'd also be quite good on those too
Seems to generate lightning charges w/ off-hand attacks if you use a spell or a cantrip 1st, even in Honour mode. Pairs well if you can trigger a sneak attack w/ your off-hand.
