Spears in Baldur's Gate 3 are pieces of equipment that is used to inflict damage against hostile characters such as Enemies and Bosses. Spears are Versatile Martial Weapons in BG3 that can be one-handed or two-handed, dealing 1-6 Damage when one-handed and 1-8 damage when two-handed, the exception being the Pitchfork that can only be Two-Handed and deals 1-6 damage instead. Spears can additionally be Thrown, dealing the same damage they would when used for a melee attack. They have a melee range of 1.5m, and they deal Piercing Damage, though some special Spears also deal another type of Damage as well.
Many Spears have unique properties, so you should read carefully what these do, and many also have Weapon Actions that can only be used if you are Proficient with Spears in BG3. These Weapon Action is Rush Attack.

not having these have the extra reach property when that’s pretty much the entire point of a spear is ridiculous. definitely deserves extra reach over thrown, especially when the javelin exists

Considering the story significance of the Shar and Selune spears they should be bound weapons that return when thrown, it makes no sense for them to be more useful on a random Tav Eldritch Knight than the character they were literally made for

It seems illogical that the spears does not have the Extra Rich tag

Yooo this game is in dire need of more good spears!
We get extremely strong greatswords early in act 1 but no viable one handed weapons for a shield fighting style.
Balanced.

There's a mod that makes spears finesse weapons. I highly recommend it cause they are outclassed by other martial weapons(which you would have proficiency with if youre a strength based class). It also allows you to play shadowheart focusing on dex so she can be the rogue of your party (opening doors and disarming traps) if you don't want to rely on astarion every playthrough.

Just missing good spear options, more feats and THROWABLE quality, which it should have.
Otherwise, a meaningless weapon in EA.
could be usable if they were 1d8 one handed like the longswords, they don't bring anything to the table besides rush attack, hope they balance them.
